    Upgrade Vizia to Vizia RF+

Hi all --   Have an ELK M1 GOLD that uses a XSP that communicates to a RZCOP serial controller, a bunch of Vizia RF legacy devices (including my master controller, a RZCPG) Old school, I know. But it works... I'm able to automate basic rules with lighting, even if I don't have polling or...

Anyone have the install to ElkRP (not RP2)/ Issues connecting via LAN to M1XEP

Hi --    Still trying to update/upgrade my way out of running ElkRP on my older computer. I bought an M1XEP  and plan to use ElkRP2 over the network (not serial), however I'm having a tough time getting that to work.   When I try to connect over the network, I get the dreaded "Disconnected...

What to do with an M1Gold? Continue to invest or "upgrade" (replace)?

So earlier this week, my M1G keyboards all went dark, even though the unit is powered. Yeay, probably something wrong with the 485 bus.   I was about to boot up my old Pentium3/Win95 machien and start troubleshooting, and then it hit me... like all technology, is it time to move on?   When I...

How to upgrade a REALLY old Elk M1g Firmware and ElkRP

So the good news is, I have a very stable system. The bad news is, I still use ElkRP on an ancient Dell P3-500 (!!) in order to program it. I'd like to update to the latest possible version, and transition off the old Dell.   Questions: What is the latest firmware one can get to supporting CADDx...

Windows data-logging software for new 4-channel hub?

I was dismayed to find my favorite data logging software doesn't support the new 4-channel hub (it supports the older style). Does anyone have a suggestion on windows data-logging software that does support this new device? Here's what I need - log to MySQL - FTP graph to a web-site - Runs...

    Leviton vizia rf... Sticky switches?

I installed some additional vizia rf switches the other day... And the switches "stick" They still control the lights. If you press the switch in the middle, it stays depressed, but if you push the switch from the bottom right, it doesn't. Anyone else have this problem or know of a solution?

Need BTU data-logger (already have Istec 5202) for Solar HW. Is it possible to "split" the pulse or

Anyone up for a challenge? I have a Solar HW heater (closed/drainback) system. I have a very nice Istec 5202 BTU system. It's a revenue-grade system that includes temperature sensors, highly accurate pulse-output flow meter, and the logic board, but a bit inflexible. I'd like to keep using the...

Can i replace my 7.5 volt wall wart with a 12 volt power supply?

I need a way to replace a 7.5v and 5v wall wart with 12 volts. I have an altronix power supply for my security cameras. It outputs 12 volts (really 13.8), has a battery backup, etc. its also monitored, has protection for ac fail, battery fail, etc. the altronix circuit is also on a whole house...

How many LED lights are required for proper lighting in a finished basement/

Hey everyone -- After a brief diversion (kid #2), I'm back to house projects... want to finish the basement and quarantine all the toys downstairs. Rather than put up normal cans, I want to install Cree LEDs (CR6). Suggestions on how much sq ft each will light on its own? The basement is...

    120 volt AC input relay

I have a Solar thermal system, which turns on and off based on a differential controller. I'd like to detect when the pumps are running Solar Differential Controller: - one (120v AC) normally closed circuit (controls pumps) - one (120v AC) normally open circuit (doesn't do anything right now...

    simple 1-wire contact closure

Hi all -- Is there a 1-wire solution for monitoring contact closures? (not a counter, just something that can tell whether a door is open or not). I have a punch of 1-wire temperature sensors in my network, but I'd like to track (along with the temperature data) whether the windows/doors are...

    recommendations for remote security DVR?

Hi -- We have family in another country that would like a security DVR. Thinking about the home-built route.... eg: a small (got to fit in a suitcase!) linux or XP computer with a card that accepts 4 (possible 8) camera inputs. Doesn't need a lot of "frames-per-second" as only one camera...

    modbus data grabber/charts?

Hey -- What does one need to read data from a modbus slave? Say... reading data from a modbus slave and putting the data into a MySQL database? (temp data, humidtity data, or power-consumption data)

    Monitoring DC current

Hey -- I'm installing solar PV, and apparently one of the challenges is determining if your panels are all performing correctly. There are warranties that cover replacement, but detecting a problem appears to be near impossible or very costly. I've found a few "power-plant grade" solutions, but...

Grid Tied Solar with Battery Backup

Our state is about to offer incentives to install Solar PV, and all things considered, it looks like a pretty good deal. We can get a 5.6kw system for $15,260 net of rebates (37,800 out of pocket and $22,500 in rebates), and I even found a place offering Sunwize 180watt panels for $2.50/watt...

DTV Converter box with RS-232 (Tivax RS-232)

Hi -- So, I have one of the 35 million analog TVs (and happen to like it), so I've been shopping for DTV converter boxes. The Tivax one includes an RS-232 port, so I'm wondering whether anyone knows what can be controlled through it. Thanks!

Can you wire a DPDT relay "backwards"

Hi -- As many of you have noticed, my current projects all relate to basement water-proofing and eliminating the single-points of failure. Now that my inverter project is well underway, it's time to address sump pump failure. I'm going to install a second, primary pump. What I'd like is the...

Inrush/HP rating for 4 Channel Relay board

Eric -- The docs say that the relays can handle up to 3amps @ 250 VAC. What about inrush amperage? Do you have a HP rating? Thanks! Michael

Using an inverter as a UPS (automating power supply to a sump pump)

My example is for a sump pump, but really, this is about providing inexpensive back-up power to any small motors, fridges, etc. My sump pump runs on 120v AC power. We don't lose power often (1-2x per year), but if that were to happen during a rainstorm, my basement would flood with water. In...

Elk Rule for Motion Controlled Exterior Lighting

Hi -- I have a bunch of exterior lighting and a bunch of motion detectors. The exterior lighting currently is setup to turn on at DUSK at a 10% level, and turn off at DAWN. What I'd like to do is, whenever there is motion, that the lights brighten to 100% for 5 minutes, and then return to...
