Who has Nuvo Music Port?

Edited to Add, if that isn't possible / plausible, how about Autonomic offer those who want the extra functionality some sort of upgrade price to autonomic's version of MCS? (anyone know if Autonomic has been keeping up with this thread as well?)

I have contacted Autonomic about this possibility and they are willing to sell full MCS licenses, but at a fairly steep price imo of $500. It's not really cost effective for that price in my opinion. I've also tried to see if Autonomic would publish or send me the protocol for the MSC so a driver for CQC could be developed, but no joy. They have a protocol for MCE operating system, but since I use WHS and other folks are using XP, that really isn't of use to us. I would love to see Nuvo have a 2nd version of the software that actually supports all the things Autonomic's version does already. Whatever version I'm running still has the up/down arrows going to the very beginning and end of the list, instead of paging down.

Jamie - I think a firmware update takes care of the arrow problem, IIRC.

I received the PC, Nuvo GC, and MP in the mail this weekend. Ordered a SIIG PCI serial card. Cheap shelves on their way.

Now I just have to run the keypad cables, and re-route the speakers, and devise a speaker cable patch panel (prob terminal strips). And add some speakers to a couple zones. Lots to do...

I think I'll have it up and running within a couple weeks, adding zones as time allows.

I had thought the Nuvo takes care of updates automatically...atlest that was an option when installing the software. Good luck on your setup and may you know run into all the problems I did :)

I am running out of PCI and PCIE slots on my server (after only 6 months), partically because the TV tuner card has a additional bracket for more inputs and my serial card has 2 on the card and 2 on an expansion bracket... I like the Moxa card concept, but feel it's rather messy with the octopus hannging of the back. Is there a cleaner solution available?

There are a couple of other options besides just a PCI card. There are USB options like the Digi Edgeport. It is a box with serial ports on it (1,2, 4, 8 or even 16 ports) that plugs into the computer via a USB connection. The serial ports are still local to the machine, but you don't use a PCI slot that way. The Edgeport isn't the only device that does this, but I use an Edgeport myself, so I am most familiar with that brand/model.

Another option is to look at the network serial devices. There is a current thread regarding a 4 port serial network device. This means you get 4 serial ports on a device that plugs into your network. So it doesn't connect directly with the computer. It takes some software on the computer to make the network serial plugs appear as local to the computer, but this isn't any problem.

Thanks Brian. I've been researching the serial options the last few weeks. I wanted to keep a USB adapter out of the equation during setup and troubleshooting, as some people have reported problems - not most, just some. Hard to justify more than 2 serial ports, currently - it will be a dedicated music server. For now.

The Quatech 4 port server (available for $25 on ebay) isn't Vista compatible. I went with Vista - mistake? Time will tell, it was a difficult decision.

I looked at some 4 port cards, but don't want to spend the money now. In another year or 2. First distributed audio, then alarm replacement (priorities!), then CQC/controller. I'll pick up lighting as I go. Distributed video when there is a battle for TV's (3 little kids, ages 1-5). Basement HT ~7 years, when the playroom is spent.

I'm really excited to get the music collection available throughout the house. My kids want their music, and I despise kids music.

Anyone have any tips on maintaining multiple music libraries, with the MP? Or is that wishful thinking?

Well since I just bought 4 of these and use Vista or Windows Server 2008, I better be able to find an alternative. HW_VSP seems a likely solution. Let's hope so.

The Quatech 4-port server MAY be Vista compatible. Just not listed in the specs, IIRC, which I looked up last week. VSP looks pretty cool - remote control of a serial device, over ethernet. :)

Yeah, the ability to go page by page is solved by updating the GC via a firmware update from nuvo's site in the prozone. As far as the music port software self updating, it doesn't do that yet, maybe it will in a future version, but i'm hoping it doesn't, i'm always leery of software phoning home for anything.

I had issues installing the driver on the 64 bit version of W7, the 32 bit version resulted in an error as well, but reran setup with different settings (W7 detected something went wrong and suggested to try again) and it installed the driver successfully. I need to test the actual ports tho.

Thanks to Neurorad for suggesting I view this thread for possible solution to the problem I'm experiencing with Nuvo Music Port. Perhaps someone can be of some help.
I using Windows Vista 64bit, Music Port, MCS w/Essentia. Just had this system installed by a tech but he wasn't able to get integration w/iTunes. When I verify configuration of the MCS it displays in the settings that it's suppose to be looking for both Windows Media Player & iTunes. It only finds/scans for Media Player music & Media Player Playlists. I did have this on another machine (XP) and when it scanned you would see it scan for Media Player Music, Media Player Playlists, iTunes Music & iTunes Playlists & it would place a green check next to each item once it completed.
So I have @ 50gig of iTunes music that I can't listen to.

My question is, of course, is for a solution to this - what am I missing? I've registered for Prozone and have read all the white papers and viewed all the applicable webinars.

I'm thinking of either reinstalling the software or removing & then reinstalling the software but have two questions beforehand.
1) If I do a reinstall will it treat is more like a repair and just replace missing/corrupt files or is just 100% reinstalled?
2) Will there be any problems with re-registering the product with my license key as it's already registered, meaning do I have to call or email Nuvo first in order to re-active the key?
I'm pretty sure I have the machine set up correctly - just don't have access to the iTunes library - I'm thinking a reload might do the trick. (In the mean time I've been converting the AAC files to MP3 at 320 in order for windows media player to be able to recognize/play the music but the file size is killing me - plus I prefer the iTunes integration over WMP.

Any help/direction will be greatly appreciated.

I would just uninstall it and reinstall. The license key will not be a problem, on my numerous reinstalles it never asked me for it...it must put a entry in the registry for this.

Attempted to do just that last night. I uninstalled the MCS software, rebooted, then reloaded the software. I at no time was prompted to enter any information, after a few minutes it just opened back up fully configured - as if it was never uninstalled.
Suggestions?

If I remember correctly, you can unregister the software before uninstalling it. It will then walk you through the complete setup, key and all.

Decided to wait a few days as I was concentrating on moving my files to MP3 so I could at least use media player. Yesterday I stopped getting sound out of my zones if played from the music port client - the track is displayed as buffering - but I can play directly out of media player to any zone. Good time to reinstall - however was prompted that my key was invalid as they show it on another computer - so I had to send an email to tech support for them to look into the key issue.

Any idea what is causing me not being able to listed to songs controlled from the music port client? STUCK!
