Securing your garage

I always say that the bad guys will hear two noises, if they don't leave after the first, they won't be leaving after the second.(If I'm home that is)

I'm sure you are aware, with the gun laws in most state, that would more likely land YOU in prison. The burden of proof that deadly force was absolutely unavoidable is very high. I was considering a Beretta Xtrema2 "security system" before the ELK...until I read the gun laws ;)

I hear you. I would only shoot if absolutely necessary, that saying sounds good though, Right?

jk

I could use another quote to answer your reply "Dead men tell no tales", (I think it was Yosemitie Sam) ...but the reality is the last thing I want to do is pull the trigger and kill someone. If it's them or me, it's not going to be me, you know whatI mean.

Actually, we've had several instances here around Atlanta related to automated garage door openers, but not break-ins, home invasions. Seems that home invasions are becoming more popular as thieves have started going after PINs and passwords, for which you need a live hostage sort of thing. At any rate, there have been several home invasions in the area where the thief is somewhere near the house when a person comes home, then slides in under the garage door as it closes. The benefit to the thief is to have the victim in what is usually an isolated part of the house, and the door automatically closes behind them preventing passerbys from witnessing a problem.

The point of this is you might want to consider a panic button or some such in the garage.

Lugnut - just wondering where you live. Down here in Missouri the law is on the side of the law abiding citizen.

TeleFragger - I hate to say it, but your story is just that - confirmed as urban legend here: http://www.snopes.com/politics/crime/homeinvasion.asp

Myself, I use an Elk M1G, 4 dogs and an assortment of firearms. I also live in a very rural area and I've never heard of a breakin in my area. Still, best to be prepared. The Elk and dogs are intended for pre-warning only.

Stay safe. ;)

Maybe I should wire in an extra set of door opener safe-T-beams higher up on the door to keep someone from "stepping over" the beam.

This is a even greater reason to remind your family that they have to pay attention to what is around them. It should be pretty difficult for someone to hide next to the garage with out you seeing them. Paying attention to your surroundings is 90%+ of the battle...
