EG is earth ground. Ground is or can be chassis or electrical ground, which may or may not be attached to the EG, and may or may not be referenced to EG.
IE: When talking to a lot of manufacturers, especially when talking FACP's and ground faults, they'll commonly refer to EG and building ground, which commonly are not the same.
