I thought I'd start a thread where people could post available, off the shelf options for in wall and handheld Premise touch screens.

AFL-412AW-ATOM-N270 option looks attractive to me, but is $1398 still. It uses the Intel Atom processor.

Top of my list right now is this one:
Sleek Buttonless touch screen option for $749 direct from samsung

high resolution
The Q1EX stands out from the rest with its 7" wide LCD touch screen. Its 1024 x 600 resolution and 300 nits of brightness add up to an incredible viewing experience. Will 1024x600 look good with Premise... Hmm...?

I'm really only looking for xp/vista based devices. XP embedded would work I'm guessing as it would also have activex support and must suport atleast 800x600 (you can always use 123's trick to modify the automation browser size if the pc is natively larger than 800*600, but not if it's smaller). I'll post some more links as I do more research, but I'm hoping some others will chime in  For the handheld touchscreen, I'd prefer to get something new as I don't want to use a stylus (fingers are better) and really want to buy a low power device (running intel atom or something similar).

D14, You have a great find here, this is exactly what I was looking for (it appears the cheap one doesn't support 800*600 though)! Have you dealt with this company before? I'm going to call them next week.

I wouldn't worry about the mounts as my experience with LCD's is that most follow VESA standards. If not, a cheap mount from an online place and a drill motor will allow you to make new holes. Ok, maybe this is hard as I don't see any holes on the back for mounting. After watching the video, I'm completely lost on how to mount this thing?

I've also made mounts in the past using heavy duty metal C channel strut (usually found in the electrical department at lumberyards) and 3/8" bolts. I use this now in my living room and it makes for a neat industrial look as in my current place I can't mount the TV to the wall, I modified a base using this stuff.

The WebDT is an interesting device. Nice form factor. Search eBay and you'll find them for less than $100. The trick is to find the Win XP version ... most are Win CE 5.0.

Thanks this is interesting! Looks like it'd be a good candidate for a Premise touchscreen to me. I couldn't find a single one on ebay with xp though :)

I finally and received a touch screen remote for Premise. Up until now, I've been using IR and RF remotes to do Premise functions, but I must say I do like the feel of the automation browser on the Q1EX by Samsung. The Q1EX is much sleeker than the old style Q1 and is a little smaller. Dimensions measured are 8 3/8" by 4-7/8" and it fits very nicely in your hand. If the touch screen was any smaller than 7" though, you would have trouble hitting the correct button in the automation browser and would want to use different automation browser buttons. The back of the unit has a nice stand that also allows an upright configuration. This is ideal to place the unit in when charging. It would look very nice on a coffee table etc...

Pictures are attached. Notice how large the Onkyo 905 remote looks compared to the Q1EX!

Sweet! The size is perfect...hows the battery life? Funny, I would think Premise could of had a better chance if this type of technology was around a few years ago....

And what is really disturbing, is to see how much people are paying for the 'single universal remote' only to get a singular use device......

Battery life is 3-4 hours (assuming you disable bluetooth, on board camera and the indexing service) I would think, but I haven't tested it yet. It came with the standard battery, but one review reports 6 hours from the extended battery! I think if you replaced the drive with an SSD drive, it would make a VERY fast laptop for it's size. It also offers a screen dimming option that looks neat too. The screen does look better in person, the camera flash kind of washed it out.

Chuck, I take it you are talking about the Harmony 1000 logitech remote that sells for $599+? Makes you wonder how much logitech makes on their remotes doesn't it? The Q1EX new is $749 or less.

I have also seen some of the Control4 and AMX handhelds at a local place and they are much more expensive than the Samsung Q1EX that's for sure (about 2.5x more).

You may also like this one, if you are waiting for the apple tablet. It's by Archos and coming out this fall. The Archos is about .63" thick, but looks larger than the Q1EX as it has an 8.9" screen instead of a 7" screen. Too bad it's not out now!
