Configuring US1-40 switch ...

So I just replaced my last X10 light switch with a US1-40 switch, and I am having issues replicating the old light switch's behavior. You would tap it once, and it would come on to a certain percentage (figured that part out), but then, if you tap it on again, it would resume dimming to 100%. I can't see to figure this part out.

In order to get it to 100%, I have to tap the switch twice. While I probably can get used to it, the wife noticed this difference already, and it was a nice feature. Is it possible to replicate this behavior with my UPB switch? Thanks!

It Sounds like single tap to a set rate and double tap for 100%. The only change for you is do a double tap to get 100% instant or ramp up if desired. The ramp rate is also adjustable.

That's what I ended up doing, but was hoping I could use a second single tap to continue ramping the light up to 100% (it's how old Lightolier X10 switch worked). Thanks for confirming this!

I do something similar.

What I ended up doing was having a LINK get called. If you single tap, the switch will start to go to 100%, however BEFORE it gets there, I have HS respond with a "goto 80%" call. On the second activation of the SAME link, HS doesn't do anything and the switch just continues it's climb to 100%.

It's nice because if my HS server goes down, the switches in the house can still "seem" like they are having no issue. We would just loose the automated part of the switches (in bathrooms and such).

The only problem I ran into was making sure that the switch took long enough to climb to 100%, so HS could get in there and override the command to STOP at 80%. Otherwise the lights go up, then dim down.

!!ALSO!! Keep all the dim rates the same...or it will seem funny.

I was thinking about using a Link, but using the M1. My experience has been that this would be too slow, but maybe I should try this again.

I think the speed will be fine but I think your challenge is getting the M1 to know the difference between the first single tap and subsequent ones. At least that was my issue when testing it.

Can you just make a new device + rule set?

Have the rules say, any time the light is on, set the value of the status holder device to ON. IF the status guy is ON, and you have received an ON to tha tlink, don't do anything, otherwise send out the "go to 80" link.

Or even better...

Upon receipt of that link going active...IF the device in question is ON in any way, don't do anything...otherwise just send the second link "go to 80"

Have the switch transmit a link for go to 100%, which it should be setup to read (like a 2-40, I don't know if you can do this with an 11-30).

FYI for future switch purchases..

The PCS Gen2 dimmers provide the exact function you want. It's under the "Rocker Switch" tab, "Enable Top Rocker Max Out Option". First tap ramps up to your configured percentage, 2nd tap ramps from there up to 100%. The HAI, SA and PCS(Gen1) dimmers don't seem to have that option available in UPStart.

I have events triggering on the status of certain switches, seems to work fine. The only thing it can't track is if a device is turned on by a link, but that's something every panel has a problem with.

I have switches setup in kids rooms (and most other places now) that a double off tap sets the light to 10% (e.g. night light). The kids use it all the time. Can't get the wife to use it but that is for a different thread.

RE: Elk & UPB...

No matter what I've tried so far (multiple passive couplers, active repeater/coupler, different PIMS) I still have 2 UPB switches that miss 4 out of 10 signals.

The problem with the M1 is that it apparently just transmits the UPB command and doesn't have the capability to listen for an ACK from a device. So in order to make sure those 2 problem switches sucessfully respond to a UPB command I've switched to using HomeSeer and the UPB plug-in to control those 2 problem switches. The plug-in has the option to require an ACK from the device or it will retransmit the command until it gets an ACK back.

I wish Elk would add the capability in an XSP to resend a UPB command if it doesn't receive an ACK.
