I am also experiencing this same reboot problems with 5.3 Rebooted about once per day which caused all of my smoke to send a restore to my alarm company. They weren't happy. Reverted back to 5.2.10 and now everything is fine.
Will call Elk tech support monday. I suggest everyone else...
Thanks for all of the feedback. I am going to check out the Elkington node.js project as it seems to have potential. However, all of these interfaces still concern me due to the original point about security. All of these seem to leverage logging into the M1XEP module. Once something is...
One other related question. I know the M1XEP runs Linux. Does anyone know how I can ssh into the XEP and get root access on it? If I can do this I should be able to accomplish the above with a simple BASH shell script on the XEP.
Yes, I agree. I do not want to impact the ELK at all due to security concerns.
Let me be a bit more specific. I would like to have a Python application running on a server local to the Elk in the same house (it could be in the cloud such as AWS..not really relevant). I need a way...
I have a question about possible future capabilities of the Elk M1 as far as allowing integration with Third Party Developer applications. I would like to develop an application which would run on a separate server or “cloud” which would take as input a trigger from the M1. It appears...
Ahh, ok. The serial spec from elk seemed to indicate to sum the ASCII values and then take mod256. I'll try taking each ASCII value as a mod256 and then doing the sum. Once I get the Python code working ill share here.
Thank you
I am having problems getting some python code to properly calculate the checksums for the Elk serial protocol.
I have looked at the serial protocol document and the example C source code in the Appendix. I have also downloaded the ELK SDK so that I can verify what the SDK is calculating...
Just make sure that you don't use a lighted doorbell. The lighted doorbells won't work since it will leak enough current to cause the M1 to think that it is always closed.
I purchased a doorbell and then just clipped the Light out.
Here is what I did and it appears to work well. The tstat turns off after 2:30 of inactivity and doesn't turn back on again until it detects motion in the area. I haven't found any rapid cycling. BTW, came up with this solution in conjunction with ELK tech support.
Whenever OFFICE...
I would like to create a rule on the M1G to have a motion trigger the setback of a thermostat. Here is my setup:
Motion detector in room connected to burg interior zone on M1
HAI Omnistat being controlled by M1G (this is working fine with the iphone Ek M1 app)
What I would like to do is...
So this is really going to come down to the pricing on this unit. A small uplift over a conventional keypad would make tremendous sense. Anything beyond that, and I am not sure I'll be able to sell it.
Yes, ELK has a 7" touchpanel but it is in desperate need of an update. The dealer cost...
Why is the screen so small? This doesn't seem competitive when compared with the other touch screens out on the market.
Have you seen what Honeywell is doing? It makes this look like it is circa 1995. Unless the pricing is such to make this extremely attractive, I can't see how this is...
Yes, NTP won't correct something that is that far off. You have to manually set the clock to get it within at least a few minutes and then NTP should keep it in sync from there. This has nothing to do with ELK. NTP works that way on any platform or computer system.
On the ELK M1 is there any way to change the "AREA 1 IS ARMED" and "AREA 1 IS DISARMED" messaged. Since I only have 1 area it would be ideal for it just to say "SYSTEM IS ARMED" and "SYSTEM IS DISARMED"
Is this possible?
Thanks
I don't think that I am referring to the "clock" icon. This seems to happen randomly. I could be walking past the keypad in the middle of the day with no interaction happening whatsoever on the panel and I occasionally see the animated rotating C icon. The RS485 comm seems to make more...
I have hopefully two easy questions. I noticed that occasionally I have a rotating "C" on my keypad displays. I initially thought that it indicated that the panel was communicating to the central station but it seems to happen when there should be no communication. Does anyone know what...
While I don't have a need to control a Zwave lock I am going to try and integrate the Vera2 with the ELK via the ViziaRF emulation plugin on the Vera. The Vera2 just arrived yesterday and I am waiting on an additional ELK serial module. I'll update the group sometime next week.
Does anyone...
Thanks for the reply. So just to make sure, the VRC0P-1LW will work in conjunction with the M1XSP with the ViziaRF firmware load? This combo will give me the best Zwave interface for the M1?
Thanks
I have a relatively new ElkM1 installation and would like to start adding some Zwave devices. My most immediate need would be an appliance module to control a transformer connected to landscape lighting as well as some switch modules. Will the M1XSP along with the LEVITON ViziaRf allow me to...
