    UPB Problems

The UPStart file was fine but I am not sure about overheating of the switches. Nearly all my UPB switches are set to dim at start. Saves some electricity and provides additional lighting when switch is double tapped. Interestingly, when the lights are brightened they appear brighter than they...

    UPB Problems

When I started UpStart, it informed me that my version was over 90 days old. i was running 4.8 Build ?. I checked and version 5.0 was available. Installed it and now 10 devices are verified/comm good and 3 are minor diff/comm good. Weird! But I am up and running again and family is not so irritated.

    UPB Problems

I just ran UpStart and now it sees all the devices but there is definitely some other issues. I got 5 Major Diff/Comm Fail, 2 Major Diff/Comm OK, 1 Missing, 2 Verified/Comm OK and 3 Minor Diff/Comm OK. I will work on the Major and Minor Diffs. maybe I can figure out what is causing noise. Must...

    UPB Problems

Got home and turned circuit breaker back on. Now lights are working fine. That is good for now. I have the phase coupler. Just looked a little more intimidating for me to install and no cash for licensed electrician for now. Justfor kicks I will try UpStart shortly but I doubt that it will have...

    UPB Problems

I complained that the kids were leaving lights on in the main bathroom (which does not have motion sensor for later turning light off :( ) . I would then go and easily turn the light off. Last night at 1:30 AM (was up later finishing putting porcelain tile floor down), the lights would not turn...

    Rain8

Printed the Hunter manual and will read it this weekend. I also have to decide whether I can work with my existing lawn. If not, I will not be able to afford new lawn and sprinkler system. I need to work on my weed control and correct unevenness. To male the lawn more even, I have slowly been...

    Rain8

Anybody have any suggestions for planning and implementing a sprinkler system that includes HA control? I have been looking for free software that helps with layout design and then recommends the materials to buy. I would then like to rent the machine that vibrates the line into the ground (saw...

    Water sensor placement in bathroom

This is a timely topic. I started a similar one today on measuring water leakage near pool pump/filter/heater. In my case, it is remote enough that I plan on using a powerline solution so as to not have to pull new wires 150 feet.

    UPB Water Sensor

I can easily use a wall wort. Have a whole collection of them from old cell phones, etc.

    UPB Water Sensor

I would be connecting these to a UPB UMI module that has I/O. So these should work perfectly. Thanks.

    Monitoring Sump Pump Backup Battery

I did a quick search and see that a lot of people just monitor water level when adding automation to sump pumps. I am purchasing a battery backup sump pump (Aquanot II... WatchDog is cheaper but the Aquanot gets better reviews) and would like to monitor battery. These units have LEDs that signal...

    UPB Water Sensor

I have a float switch in my sump pump well connected to Ocelot and then HomeSeer will provide alarm and call cellphones when water level is high. I would also like to monitor for water in pool shed in the event something leaks. A float switch would not work for this. I was thinking of hooking...

    UPB ceiling fan problem

Found this thread while searching for "UPB" and "ceiling fan". I want to control light and fan and its speed separately with UPB. For separate control, I would need to hide a UFR/UFD in the fan housing as I only have one set of wires coming from the ceiling box. Guess I could try to pull an...

    Room Remodel

Digger, I could also use some tips for the stairway creaking! I also have to refinish stairs as part of my TODO list while I am on "vacation" for a week. When I get tired with the room remodel, I need to pull staples from when there was carpet on the steps. Then I sand. Nice solid oak stairway...

    Room Remodel

I know a lot of cocooners are involved in "This Old House" sort of stuff and figured this was a definite Wiring Closet item. I am looking for opinions (someone to talk me out of ;)) on tearing out plaster walls in a corner room that tends to be colder than the rest of the house. We consider this...

    PC for $249-$70 Rebate

I have a very nice 7' oak computer desk. Still not sure how I got wife to buy into that but anyway it has a compartment for a tower PC. If I were to get an item such as this, I wonder if it is designed to be vertical. I really hate putting CDs into vertical trays but the PC would not be for me...

    PC for $249-$70 Rebate

Poor video quality would not be good. Otherwise, I could use a PC upgrade for the kids to do homework (word processing, internet searches, etc.). No gaming. We have an XBOX 360 for that.

    UPB Solution for Switched Outlets

That PCS module will likely be one of several options I will consider when I start wanting to control items via the US2-40 rather than manual control via normal switch. Thanks.

    UPB Solution for Switched Outlets

I ended up using a US2-40 and a normal light switch in the double gang. Bought a several switch plates (for doing same scenario in other locations) that would fit that combo. Will use US2-40 with multi-button faceplate to control other UPB or X10 (indirectly via HomeSeer event) devices in room...
