    New Z-wave controller

I think skeptical is more accurate than paranoid, but Bal's comments sum up the reasons pretty well. Too much spam over the years pushing what purports to be the next big thing.   I do applaud your volunteer work - that's something the world needs more of.

    Stock ticker Info

Not sure about an official API from the market, but Google will give constantly updated stock information just by entering the stock symbol. You may be able to script something from that.

    Considering OpenHAB any other contenders?

My reply was a little harsh as well. Bit of an off day - sorry. Openremote does much more than just send UDP - that's just all I've used it for. It's UI is completely customizable and it meets all your needs and two out of three of your wants (no Nest yet). Well worth a look if you have the time.

    Considering OpenHAB any other contenders?

Really Marc? You asked if anyone had tried Openremote. I replied that I had, although not extensively. I'm fairly familiar with its capabilities & functions, but since you asked a vague open ended question I have no idea what information you're looking for. My response was simply an opening for...

    Considering OpenHAB any other contenders?

I've played w/Openremote a bit, although not extensively. Basically just made a pretty interface to send commands to eventghost on htpc via UDP & switched lights with X-10. Have plans to do more when time & funds allow - looks very promising.

    Need learning remote with timer

A PC running eventghost (free) with a USB-UIRT ($50 + shipping) would do what you want easily. I have 4 of the USB-UIRTs that have worked flawlessly for years & certainly don't hesitate to recommend them.

Send Pc Keystroke from wall mounted button

Looks like a Teensy 3.1 board would do it if you don't mind the time/effort to upload the code to it. It's small and cheap, too.

    IR emulating?

This guy wrote a little program to provide a web interface to LIRC on a Rpi. Looks like it has an exposed API, too. Haven't tried it myself but it looks like it might be useful.

Yeah, I saw that too. That kind of thing drives me nuts...

    Home Automation

Electricians (in most cases) won't be the ones to provide the type of system you're looking for. It's great that yours is willing to run the wires, but you really need to find an integrator who has the knowledge and experience to put together and support a system that will fit your needs. You...

    Aprilaire system goes bonkers

I know that power issues can create major weirdness with 8870s - you might verify the power supply for the panel. Other than that, has anything changed in the system?

    Wall mount Android tablet interest

Aah, that probably explains it then - power issues. I've been using mine with a 3rd party no name 120vac-usb adapter. Could provide more amperage than the stocker. I'm not wall mounting mine (yet.) Thanks for the info.

    Wall mount Android tablet interest

Not to derail this thread, but what problems have you had leaving your Kindle Fire connected to power? I don't have that problem with mine & am planning to use it for HA, but if mine's a fluke that might derail my plans...

Recommend 5.1 or 7.1 receivers with IP or serial control

Wow, that Pioneer is a great deal! Has anyone had any experience with Pioneer's receivers?

Recommend 5.1 or 7.1 receivers with IP or serial control

I'm still in the planning stages for my AV/automation system and have pretty much decided that I'm going to use multiple AV receivers to switch and distribute media to my zones that have video. Since my overall budget for automation/AV is shrinking (the wife think new flooring & paint are more...

Looking for honest feedback on reliability

Thanks for the responses, guys. I think I'll stick to either UPB or Z-wave. I like the experiences I had with UPB & the simplicity of controlling it through rs-232. On the other hand I like the simplicity of Z-wave door lock integration, and the Vera looks to be a pretty capable controller that...

Looking for honest feedback on reliability

Thanks Work2Play. I liked the ease of setup and flexibility of UPB when I was working with it, but wasn't around it long enough to get a feel for its reliability. I did do an install on a couple of 10,000+ sq. ft. houses & was impressed with how well it worked on long runs & through sub panels...

Looking for honest feedback on reliability

Hi guys - been lurking a while, but have a question I haven't been able to find a clear answer to. We recently purchased a new house & I'm planning an automation system. The house is just over 3800 sq. ft., & I'll eventually want to control all the lighting, door locks, & t-stat. I have a pretty...
