    Sunrocket going out of business?

Yeah, they are dead. I am one of the SunRocket users and my phone worked last night but today when someone calls our phone number they hearing it just ring and ring and ring. The house phones never ring though. Fortunately we have cell phones. If you call their support number you get a...

    Homeseer Offline Install

Usually an update to HomeSeer is done with an exe file. So you would download it, take it with you and just run it.

    Homeseer Offline Install

The process is pretty similiar for HS 2. I just went though this when testing the install for something I was sending in to be put in the updater. You could download the zip files and then take them with you. You would also want to take a copy of the last_update.txt file. Here is an example...

    Global Cache GC-100

No need to do that. Sounds like it runs great on a typical home network. I like that it has sensors so it can test the status of the devices as well. Thanks for the info.

potential home automation patent war looming?

A couple of years ago someone wrote up a fancy description of putting a site into frames and having a narrow frame to the left of the page with the navigation buttons for the site. I remember reading a news story about it, but can't remember if it was granted or not. Pretty crazy.

    Global Cache GC-100

Does the Global Cache just hook up to your existing home network or do you have to setup a seperate network for it? If it uses your existing network, does Internet traffic interfere with the response time. I have 4 kids so it's not uncommon for us to have 6 computers all surfing the...

    Starting From Scratch

Not that I am anywhere near close to doing this, but for the cameras, I had thought about putting each camera on a modulator and then when motion was detected have HS send the IR to put my tv in pip mode and display the channel that the camera is outputting on. That would save you having so much...

The End is Near for HomeSeer 1.7x

Yes, there is a way to install with the files already downloaded on your hard drive. It's been a long time since I used that method. It was when I was testing the the install file for the stuff that I have in the updater. I'll see if I can find the instructions. Sure, it is coming from...

The End is Near for HomeSeer 1.7x

The way HS 1.x installs a plugin is it downloads the plugin, unzips it, and then installs it. If you make a backup of the homeseer/updates directory, you will have a copy of all the plugins you have installed. It keeps both the initial zip file and a copy of each of the unzipped files.

The End is Near for HomeSeer 1.7x

I don't have much to add to the discussion, but I do remember there is a way to install files usng the updater program but already having the files on your computer. I used it quite a bit when I was testing the install file for some of the things I have in the updater.

Anybody remember the show TekWar? These things remind me of the touchscreen pads the characters in Tekwar used.

    ControlThink SDK details

I tested Control Think with the same controller that I use with HS. When my USB controller "disappeared", neither HS or CT could see it. I have to reboot my computer for CT or HS to see it again. So you can put me in the blame the controller camp.

    Homeseer 2.0 Ready for Release?

There not much to making a plugin work for both versions. I have been working on upgrading HSTV to work with HS 2. The only differences that I have ran into is in the making of events. So I just add this. If InterfaceVersion > 2 Then s = hs.AddAction(ev.evref, 5, runbefore & " " &...

    Home Automation Options

Squintz, I'll add my 2 cents here too. The HS community will survive and continue to grow. There were many that were predicting the end of HS a few years ago when pay for plugins first started. I am still running 1.7.x on my home automation server. I purchased 2.0 the first day that it...

INSTEON SwitchLinc V2 Dimmer is now shipping!

Rupp, I'm glad to hear that the serial made the difference. I will have to give it a try. Unfortunately, I have had the USB one for too long to return it so I'll have to save up a bit.

INSTEON SwitchLinc V2 Dimmer is now shipping!

One of the big things the z-wave claimed was that their wireless was secure so your neighbor could not control your devices. Does Insteon have this also? My z-wave USB controller locks up 3 or 4 times per week. I have to re-start HS to get it to work again so I am getting really frustrated...

    RAID Cards

Ok, plans changed. I am getting one of these: http://www.promise.com/product/product_det...&product_id=107 Got it on e-bay for $15. Figured anytime I can move the processing to hardware it leaves the CPU for more important stuff.
