    ELK C1M1 DIY Installation

Thanks!  Man, after reading that, my head starts hurting, LOL.  I think what I'm really after, is just a cellular monitoring service for the ELK.  While all that would be a nice setup, I'm not ready to find a way to backup multiple pieces of equipment like that in the event of a power failure. ...

    ELK C1M1 DIY Installation

Have you looked more into this?  I'm interested in this, my only concern is that I don't want my entire network traffic going through this, versus my cable modem, but I'm not sure there is an easy way to hook up the M1 to both networks.  Since I have an ISY-994 also on ethernet, that is my main...

Any good or bad words about the Elk C1M1 device and ElkLink service?

Sure wish the ball would get rolling on this thing, and for DIY people to get and install these.  I've been putting off a cellular solution for a couple years now.  I am in the same boat though, I use my ISY to talk to the ELK panel, so I need to have that funcionality, and believe me, I'd drop...

    M1XEP MAC Address changed

I think reserving static IP's via MAC on the router is pretty common. I do it for a number of reasons, one, I have multiple devices that I need to always have assigned the same IP, so that I can get to them, without finding out what number they have been assigned. Secondly, I'd rather set a...

    M1XEP MAC Address changed

Nope, I let my router handle the static IP assignment, but with the number of times it's gone static on me, maybe I'll give it a go doing it that way from the XEP side. Good suggestion! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    M1XEP MAC Address changed

It is very frustrating that this piece of equipment will default back to a static IP after a power failure. I've had this happen so many times now, that I'm fairly good at recognizing the problem, just wish it was more reliable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    M1XEP MAC Address changed

Too lazy to walk upstairs to check the MAC on the board, but mine is currently now:  00:40:9d:43:35:97, which appears to be one of the default ones to fall back on.  Interesting situation.  Shouldn't be happening, I don't think, but I guess it won't effect me, as long as it doesn't change to the...

    M1XEP MAC Address changed

Interesting. It had to have happened at random, I have not upgraded any firmware on any of my ELK equipment. I guess I don't care that much what the MAC is as long as it doesn't keep changing, or change to a MAC that another device in my system has. Other than that, it's fine whatever it is.

    M1XEP MAC Address changed

Makes me wonder if there is a serious problem with the v2 firmware, obviously it somehow self changed its MAC address, which theoretically shouldn't be able to happen. I don't know a lot about how MAC chips work, but assume the address is stored in some kind of EEPROM or similar memory, and...

    M1XEP MAC Address changed

Will do, for sure. I'm not sure what happened to it, but about a month ago, I was having issues with my internet, and over about a week of troubleshooting what I thought was my Ooma VoIP, it was actually the ELK. I pulled up my router's log, and about every 8 seconds, the ELK was trying to get...

    M1XEP MAC Address changed

Ugh, been struggling with this for a couple weeks now.  Same thing happened to me.  I assign the M1XEP a static IP via DHCP (through my router) using it's MAC address.  Internet has been down because it was assigning a random IP to the NEW MAC address.   I've come to the conclusion that this ELK...

New Elk M1 Install (Power planning help needed)

Would be interesting to see if any eFlow units show up on eBay.  I'm tempted by the AL400, because it's cheap, but then need to buy the PTC module, and the LPD module for the battery.  The eFlow would be a complete off the shelf solution...but, with the AL400, a complete setup could be had for...

Mystery 20/4 Conductor Cable on Pre-Install

Mystery solved! Almost never use my side garage door because there was stuff piled in front of it. Since this was a 4 conductor wire, I never thought it would be a door sensor. I opened the door a few days ago and discovered the prewired plug in place. Once I pulled the two conductors out...

New Elk M1 Install (Power planning help needed)

All good points to consider. I will take a look at the Altronix supplies, as I was also interested in powering the XEP off a battery backed up supply. So is 5 years the recommended replacement time of the SLA batteries, even if no problems are reported?

New Elk M1 Install (Power planning help needed)

I guess another thing to think about, is supervising the aux supply.  That is why I'm leaning more towards the ELK-P212S to power my Uplink.  Although probably a bit overkill, at least it would report back to the control when there are battery problems, unlike some of the standard aux supplies...

    M1G and Cellular Monitoring

Unfortunately, no, not yet. I'm working with a 5&7 year old to make sure they are comfortable with arming/disarming, and know the importance of using the alarm. We haven't talked yet about what will happen if they accidentally set it off. Our city only gives you 3 free false alarms, and will...

    ELK M1G Install Frustration

Usually it gives a reboot message before doing that though, and I've shut everything down, opened the account, connected to the ELK, gone to XEP setup, time server tab, and just hit the test button, no other changes. So strange.

    ELK M1G Install Frustration

That's what I am wondering, if something like that happened when I was in ELK RP. I've been in and out of there tinkering with stuff, and had some strange things happen. For instance, trying to get the time server working... I get everything in there how I think it should be, send to ELK M1...

    ELK M1G Install Frustration

Well below 1A, according to the Current Draw Worksheet, I'm only at 0.48A, including the ELK.  The devices listed are the only ones powered by the ELK, the M1XEP has it's own power supply.  No other active sensors or devices are connected.   I will have to keep an eye on it, for now, everything...
