    Is m1 still best option?

OK, so sound like the ELK is still relevant and appropriate, though maybe not optimal. So if it were me looking for one for a new house I'd probably stick to the ELK, but for a buddy with no history or experience the DSC may be an easier option (as long as they have <64 inputs).

    Is m1 still best option?

I've had an M1 based system in my house going on 12 years now and it's worked great for me, particularly the expandability for garage door sensors, Insteon light controls, ethernet control, integration wth CQC and now Home Assistant, etc. A buddy is building a new house and has asked me if he...

Best current monitoring for ELK system?

Had an ELK in my old place and used NextAlarm but I recall some drama with them at some point. I had taken my ELK with me when I moved and now finally have it all setup again. Time to get monitoring again. Any recommendations on best reasonably priced (<$15/month) monitoring services?

    Monitoring a safe

Hi, We have a small safe that I would like to monitor for any door opening or large bumps/vibrations. I have an ELK M1 but I'm not sure how to setup a sensor on the safe. I don't want to put it on the outside so that it could be easily disabled but also running a wire to the inside might...

    Sensor for wooden gate?

I have a gate on the side of my house and I want to be able to have my Elk aware of when it is open/closed so that I can have text spoken and flash lights if its open too long.    As the gate is on the far side of the garage, there is no crawlspace easy run to get near the gate. I'd have to run...

    Installer Recommendation in Seattle/Eastside area?

Have a friend who I talked out of going with ADT but he doesn't have time right now to physically install an Elk. he requested installer info from Elk but no response. Any ideas on how I can find a good installer to refer him to? I'd help but just can't spare the time for about another month or...

Ballpark Costs & Effort to move to AlarmRelay Cellular monitoring?

So much info!    So, easiest may be to just go with http://www.amazon.com/Uplink-Sec-Numerex-Solutions-PRIMARY/dp/B00IIVE7GQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454555392&sr=8-1&keywords=Uplink+4530EX and have it as primary without using net based monitoring at all?

Ballpark Costs & Effort to move to AlarmRelay Cellular monitoring?

I'm trying to find the BAT online at ~$150 but only seeing $180+. Any rec's on lower pricing?    I'll call AR tomorrow to confirm my location can be monitored. Also reminds me I think I need to renew my alarm registration.

Ballpark Costs & Effort to move to AlarmRelay Cellular monitoring?

I have an Elk M1 that I've been using with NextAlarm for 5+ years. However, I'm looking to add backup cellular monitoring and also probably move to AlarmRelay as I've heard their monitoring costs are less.   I see mention of needing to add a Uplink 4500EZ (along with extra power supply). What is...

Elk compatible thermostat that can do re-circ

When my house was built, they had put in a external air intake with a power damper to close it off. The setup had a honeywell controller separate from the thermostat that would, on schedule, open up the damper and run just the fan to pull in outside fresh air.    When the installer put in my...

Easiest way to migrate ELK Wireless devices?

I currently have one of the old wireless adpaters for GE Crystal Transmitters and have bought one of the new M1XRF receivers/expanders. Is there any easy way to move over all my existing wireless sensors?

ELk M1, Relays, and power-cycling of ELK

I could have sworn that a while back I read about a quirk of the M1 & it's relay board that when the power to the ELK was cycled that it would then 'trigger' all of the relays attached. Am I just imagining things? I want to use a relay panel to control my garage doors but am worrried that a...

How to integrate 'Liftmaster' garage door..

Although I want to be able to control mine, I only want it to be manual. 99% of the time it'd be used if I forget to close the door. I have a camera in the garage so I could easily view the camera and know if I could close the garage or not. That said, I'd still like to have another sensor on...

A message from Steve at Smarthome.

Hi Steve, What is the real support on devices? I have 2 icon switches and 1 keypadlinc that have all developed issues this week. The two icon switces have problems with the physical switch. One of them only recognizes the top of the paddle and the other only recognizes the bottom. Now if only I...

Western Digital Announces the First 2TB Drive

I managed to get a dreamhost web account with unlimited storage and bandwidth for some low price (can't recall exactly, but under $60 for 2 years). I plan to use that for an offsite backup. Just need to figure out how to automate doing a backup and then FTP up to the site, with...
