Hello Mick. I appreciate it. My goal is to create the world's first smartphone connected doorbell, not an ugly IP camera with a button, which is DoorBot.

The doorbell would look better than that example, but it would still look like a normal doorbell. It can't look to fancy because it would top off thieves.

So you wouldn't mind spending $100 for a doorbell that looks like this? What if it becomes a well known type of doorbell? In other words, robbers may start looking for these black doorbells because it will have high resale value.

It's a doorbell button which looks like any other doorbell button. It's $100 because it has a mini camera (which you can't see) which streams video to your smartphone. Would you be afraid of someone stealing your push button in this situation or not?

Thank you for the tips. Are you referring to using a normal iP camera? Also, would this solution be able to send a video alert to the smartphone? Also, I haven't seen an iP cameras with a doorbell like button.

The cost to develop a custom camera/button for the outside pales in comparison to widely available touch screen technology that can be used for the same purpose and will go down in price even more. Also, having a touch screen open up new possibilities.

The scratching issue can be solved with a screen protector. In terms of fogging, I've never seen a touchscreen fog up. The doorbell would be pretty simple to use: The screen is off. But when it detects motion, a doorbell button appears, and they press it. Nothing to get irritated about.
