Branded NVR vs. Home Built Unit

For reference I found this NVR storage calculator.  Makes quick work of the math:   https://www.supercircuits.com/resources/tools/security-nvr-storage-calculator

Branded NVR vs. Home Built Unit

Has anyone used an NVR in conjunction with ELK M1?  For example, on event like alarm trigger in M1, you could start recording on NVR.  I have output expander on the M1 and since the NVR has inputs/outputs, could be done pretty easily.  Not sure if there are any other use situations.  On the...

Finally a reason for a camera

Back to this thread for my camera questions.  Preference for Dome vs. Bullet and when to use which?  Is it just a matter of more adjustments for the dome?   Comparing similar resolution domes and bullets for example: Bullet...

Branded NVR vs. Home Built Unit

This has been a good education.  After doing some homework this weekend on NVRs, I have a decent headache, but a better understanding.   I am really liking this Samsung unit.  After digging deep into the user manual, I see all the bases covered that I am looking for or that others have brought up...

Branded NVR vs. Home Built Unit

Ok at the risk of sounding totally clueless, what would be a recommeded stream rate for a cam? I have been looking at 1.3 and 3MP cams, but am i wasting my time with high MP if I really will never use the full potential? I can imagine that cams facing a more important entry location would be at...

Branded NVR vs. Home Built Unit

Just got off the phone with Samsung about this unit.  It is considered a professional grade, so took me some bouncing around between support centers to get answers.   It will support cameras that are ONVIF and uses Profile-S.  So it looks like it would work with my Hikvision possible choice or...

Branded NVR vs. Home Built Unit

So with a home built, how do you get all feeds into the PC, using a multiport POE switch just before the NIC? Is this a bottleneck? Seems like it would be as you are going from X feeds into 1. With higher fps I would think this could be an issue.

Branded NVR vs. Home Built Unit

I am spawning off this NVR topic from my other post about getting a system, since that one was more focused on the camera layout. http://cocoontech.com/forums/topic/28804-finally-a-reason-for-a-camera/ I appreciate all the input on that thread so far and I feel confident on my camera direction...

Finally a reason for a camera

Funny how i was always intimidated by my house when it came to cabling. All great ideas, thanks. Time to do some more research.

Finally a reason for a camera

Again thanks for the feedback.   The only space that I can access the floor of the 2nd level without any sheet-rock is below the stairwell.  This was my challenge, if I didn't want to cut up any sheet-rock, which my goal.  I think I am set now inside with cabling runs.   Outside mounting, I have...

Finally a reason for a camera

Thanks for the feedback.  Some have mentioned face level at the front door.  I have been contemplating how to run this wire as this is probably the most complex location.  Do you think the overhead would be enough? A camera on the side of the house facing my trailer was though of, but this one...

Finally a reason for a camera

I finally had some time to do some more work.  My goal was to see if I could get wires from the bottom level to the attic.  After some stressfull hole drilling, my calculations were spot on and I was successful.  So now the planning stages can begin. I am going to attach some home photos to get...

Finally a reason for a camera

Thanks, I will work on the layout.   Any recommendation on NVR for home/residential use?  The models and brands are all over the place.  Obviously # of cams is a factor, but I am sure there are some brands that are more robust than others.

Finally a reason for a camera

Thanks johnboy, not seeing your attachment.   Is there a guide or website that anyone can recommend to plan the camera layout? With all the lense sizes and such, would like to better know what to order.  I was thinking of starting with the overview type cams in the eaves and adding the more...

Finally a reason for a camera

With the help of this forum I built my ELK M1 system a few years ago.  Still running flawless.  The intention was to “someday” get a camera system up and running.  After last week, got the needed push to do so.   We were waiting for a contractor to drop off an estimate at our house.  My wife was...

    mykeypad and lollipop

So I wasted a couple of hours last night thinking something funky happened to my XEP or configuration, since mykeypad magically stopped connecting to the panel. Then it dawned on me that this occurred after lollipop was pushed to the phone. Did a search on here and saw a comment buried down...
