The RP software has this functionality built in, though you will need to find your system serial number and RP code. Hopefully it's still the default, you can get the default information from the manual - register on the ELK website as an owner if you don't already have access.

A good debug method is to perform another action, e.g. beep keypad or if you have an output board, trigger an output to watch the LED. Also watch for rules that trigger each other one after another - they run in order and if you make a state change it may cause a future rule to trigger.
