Everyone knows about the “secret” menu at In-N-Out burger, right? But did you know there is a sort-of-secret way to enable some features in UPStart? You may have stumbled across the “Extra Feature Codes” section of UPStart Options and wondered what sort of cool gems are hiding there. Well, hate to disappoint you but for the most part what’s hidden is internal diagnostics that would be of no use to anyone except the developers and UPB engineers. But there are a few features that may have some utility for you so we will let you in on more of the “secret menu” in this message.

The “PID” code when added to UPStart adds to the description of each product with its internal model number. Sometimes this may be useful in knowing exactly what you have when talking to support. Knowing that “this” keypad – so many different types! – has product number 66 and that may really help clarify things to support.

The code “SCO” is a bit of a cheat and is one that can really save the day, but it also can get you into big trouble and that’s why it is a secret code. When UPStart goes to add a device to your UPB network, it looks for the device that is in setup mode – the one you 5-tapped. It also checks to see if there is more than one device in setup mode. If there is more than one device in setup mode, this is a major problem that can lead to you inadvertently programming two devices at the same time. The SCO code removes that check during the add operation. Why would you ever want to do that? Think of it as a “battle override” when due to noise on the power line UPStart is not letting you perform the add operation. Of course, this is one of those times you really must get that device added and you know that there is only one device in setup mode. But use it with care!

In the next (last) message on the secret codes we will cover two more codes for the PulseWorx Gateway.
