Hobby boards 8/IO with DS2408

I have been going along with the weather toys book and gotten all boards from hobby boards.I have gotten everything to go so far Now i am stuck I bought a 8/IO relay board with the DS2408 on it and can not get started with software. I know a little java and a little VB6 I would like a very simple java example to turn one relay on or off. Something very simple that i could run in netbeans. I feel i have wasted money on this. I can get DS2408 demo to run it and the one wire viewer but can not seem to pull the basics out of them to do just the one simple operation.

Have now gotten java to latch a channel when directed. Still can not figure out what commands to issue to read level on a channel with jave Help!
