Heat detectors
From CT.wiki
Description
A heat detector is connected to a security system to detect fire in locations where a smoke detector is not usable. Some frequent locations are kitchens, furnace rooms, and garages.
There are two types of heat detectors, rate-of-rise, and fixed temperature. The two are frequently combined in a single unit.
- A rate-of-rise detector triggers when the temperature rises x degrees in a small amount of time. For example, the temperature in a room would not go up 30 degrees in a matter of seconds due to any event, other than a fire.
- A fixed temperature detector is set to trigger whenever the temperature exceeds a specific point. There a many different temperature point available, but the most common are 135 degrees (for garages, kitchens, etc.) and 194 degrees (for attics).
Notes
- A heat detector may NOT be substituted for a smoke detector required by code.
