Description

The DS10A wireless sensor was originally designed to work with the X10 PS561/DC821 security consoles. However, they are currently very popular because these sensors are supported by the W800RF32 and RFXCOM wireless receivers, which in turn are supported by most popular home automation software solutions, and even some home automation hardware controllers, such as the Elk M1.

Unlike most X10 RF devices, the DS10A does not use the standard X10-RF protocol. It transmits an ID, which is reset every time power has been removed for more than a few seconds. It also transmits a 'heartbeat' (current state of the sensor) every hour, allowing systems to detect any potential hardware failure/security issues.

RadioShack also released their own version of the DS10A (Catalog # 49-1001, FCC ID B4S-DS11A), which looks much sleeker, and supports a 2nd documented input.

Function

Generates a signal whenever the status of its inputs change. The DS10A comes with the typical magnetic reed switch, and was designed to monitor doors and windows. However, you can easily remove the 2 wires from the magnetic reed switch, and use them to monitor other kinds of sensors (e.g., current sensors) and contacts.
