    Mi Casa Verde 2

is it alright if you post a quick review to the forums without the video before 9/15th? Id like to know before buying the vera2 that is on sale right now. Im evaluating homeseer 2 and just bought a zwave dongle to go with it. it does everything i want except it needs a full blown computer. i...

Brinks Door Sensor --> connect to z-wave?

all of the devices that need power should be 4 wire. if you can get the model number off the sensor you should be able to find the color code for the wiring. all of these should connect to a modern security system without converting them over to zwave.

ElK M1 and new Beaming VRCOP-1W Version 3

does this mean i cant use the beaming VRCOP with Elk until they have an update? or I can use it for control of lights, outlets, thermostats, etc, but not for zwave locks only?

    Z-wave switch feel and quality

Right now the only thing i have controlling the ge zwave switches is the handheld controller. I dont have a dongle or serial device that talks zwave so i cant say if they are pollable, but Im sure someone else has posted about this. Setup was straightforward and matches what i expect for all...

Home Automation + Whole Home Audio Selection (On a Budget!)

Hi, you might have seen this thread already, but it's another post about building a new house with similar components. http://www.cocoontech.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18530 on top of the suggestions in that thread, i would add the following thoughts. I would make a big wishlist of all...

    Wireless Sensors, are they acceptable?

i got a Elk M1 with Honeywell wireless receiver to use with Ademco devices. i went wireless only because at the time I didn't know how to install the wired sensors. I wanted the security system up and running as fast as possible without buying the tools and learning how to fish wire to the...

    Z-wave switch feel and quality

i have both x10 and GE zwave switches. the x10 ones feel awful in my opinion. the relay on-off switches are also quite loud. any visitor to my house would jump at the click. the GE zwave one feels and looks much better. At the $10-$15 price range, its a clear winner for GE zwave. i liked them...

A potential solution to controlling Schlage locks via M1G

Im thinking one way to do it would be to use a free port on a serial to ethernet converter. For instance, you could use an Elk M1 serial expander attached to a quatech 4 port serial to ethernet box, which talks to the vera2 over ethernet. it'd be convoluted but you'd save getting a vrc0p for...

Help with demo system for WAF

Barring any budget issues, i think it may be wise to start with an automation capable security system since your wife is looking for the feeling of security when going to bed. Perhaps you can skip the demo and go straight to a minimal installation for a security system. Unfortunately you are...

Video Analytics, what is available to us regular consumers?

i have a logitech alert exterior camera and Ive only played around with it inside the house (to watch for mice in the basement) but i like the image quality and integration of hardware and software. I find it loads better than a microseven sony had ccd IP camera that I purchased with not too...

120v outlet controlled by Elk directly for < $20

i needed to do a similar thing except control on and off times on an attic fan. i ordered a $7 x10 controlled inline module and a $12 x10 transceiver for my Elk M1. i could also use a x10 controlled outlet for lights and other appliances if needed. Originally i was going to use zwave but the...
