Premise UPB driver - SA US1-40 switch

With Elve going away, I am looking for alternatives. As I only have a small system (Elk M1 + UPB), I can't justify the price of the other systems (CQC, HomeSeer), so naturally Premise is something I would like to try.   Most of my switches are SA US1-40, with a few US2-40. I downloaded the...

    Gas detector

The gas detectors I installed were from a different manufacturer, but they say the detectors should be replaced after 5 or 6 years. Could this be the case?

    Battery Backup Life

A battery replacement after almost 5 years is not uncommon. Probably better to replace it now than to have it leak on you later.

    Hallway night lights

I have ones similar to the above (although Leviton) and they work well. They are ambient light based. Only wish would be if you could adjust the night light brightness in full darkness for use in a room.

    Power Over Ethernet Switches

Trendnet has an 8 port switch, w/ 4 POE ports for around $80. They also have POE injectors for around $25. Mind you this is Canada pricing.

    False Alarm Help...

A suggestion would be relocating the 2nd motion, or adding a 3rd in a corner that would not catch the dog jumping on the sofa.

    Thermostat for M1

One problem to note if you use Celsius as your measurement unit. The Elk cannot remotely set or display all possible Celsius values on the HAI OmniStat. i.e. the thermostat can do 21, 21.5, 22, 22.5, 23, etc, but the Elk cannot do some values i.e. 21, 21.5, 22, 23.5, 24, etc. It is a limitation...

    Recommendations for monitoring companies

Alarm Relay is the one I hear about the most here, with Next Alarm second. Note that 95% of the time your alarm will not be able to call out properly over VOIP, as the analog to digital conversion screws up the modem tones. You should be looking at a cellular backup like the HAI C3 or the...

Looking for honest feedback on reliability

2 years ago I started outfitting my house with Simply Automated UPB switches. I now have over 20 switches in my 1280 sq ft house. For the most part they work just fine, however there are a few nuisances. The biggest is that if you hit two switches at the same time, one of them will not work. You...

    Electric Door Strike Wiring

The manual for whichever door strike you want to install has the recommended wire gauge depending on distance and voltage used. I recall some requiring as large 18 gauge.
