Simple way to view IP Cameras on TV

Doorbell sensor goes to Elk M1G. My Home Automation software is Indigo (Mac). There are plugins for the Elk M1G and also for a Denon AVR. Then it was just that much logic for Indigo to see the Elk has picked up a doorbell ring, and if it does, change inputs on the Denon.

    mailbox sensor?

I'd like to install something like this as well, and some of the solutions in this thread look... ok, but not quite perfect.   Mainly, I'd like it to have some dry contact outputs or something, not just a chime on the base, so that I can have it connected to my automation system so it can either...

Soil moisture meters for lawn irrigation

Ok... so I forgot the links would be in my phone, so I totally found the link, and lo-and-behold, the procedure I listed above is roughly correct. Amazing.   http://homeguides.sfgate.com/control-home-irrigation-systems-soil-moisture-sensors-100694.html I like the entire idea of this top-down...

Soil moisture meters for lawn irrigation

I apologize in advance for the lack of precision in this post, but I'm at work without access to the links I've saved regarding this.   I kind of want to set this up too. Just have the sprinklers check every morning if the ground needs the water or not. I also couldn't find the right values...

    HDMI matrix switch

I actually still rock an XBox 360... I also don't use the headsets. Not really an online-shooter kind of guy. That being said... controllers totally work in pretty much every room. Living room, it's not trustable, but works everywhere else. I think it helps that we have a 2 story home, and the...

    HDMI matrix switch

Can you testify to any added latency from the HD-M2C units? I bought a much cheaper type that just takes digital coax input (available on my matrix) and downmixes it to 2 ch. Works really well, but has a bit of lag. If the Atlona could reduce that lag significantly, I think it might be worth...

    HDMI matrix switch

It's been a couple of weeks, but I'm going to chime back in here...   I've now got my matrix switch up and running and frankly, it's pretty smooth and transparent. I decided to just leave the sources on all the time, and that seems to work fine. Any TV in the house can pick up and turn on with...

    HDMI matrix switch

The thing that made it most difficult for me in getting the Oppo configured right, was the inability to actually 'see' just what audio signal it was outputting on each port. It displays what it's sending out the primary (to the AVR), and the AVR will tell you exactly what it's getting, but...

    HDMI matrix switch

One other note: I also had a bit of trouble with HDCP from DirecTV boxes. Perhaps the wiring in my house was juuuuust not quite up to snuff. Not sure what the deal was, but mainly isolated to DirecTV boxes not being able to lock HDCP and then cutting out every few seconds. Turns out the HDMI...

    HDMI matrix switch

I'm in the process of getting my HDBaseT matrix set up too, and I can testify to the trickery around EDID, etc. On the plus side, all TVs can basically play 1080p, so that's not much of an issue. Audio was more difficult for me as unlike tadr, I am not using all of my in-room speakers for audio...

How many IP devices do you have?

I'm somewhere in the 30s. Mostly using consumer-grade stuff here. AirPort Extreme, netgear switches, older AirPort Extreme as an additional access point. I've made a sting effort to remain as hardwired as humanly possible. I'm pretty much outgrowing my structured wiring cabinet and given how...

    Stock ticker Info

Commodity analyst here... Unless you're really sure on a good short-term view USO is not an awesome way to get long oil. Negative roll yield tends to eat up a lot of the 'gains' (which is why USO itself massively underperforms the prompt contract). Most USO investors are just individuals with...

The fire of automation and use of an Android phone and Android watch

I'm a regular watch wearer. I always have been, and never got into the habit of checking the time on a phone and consequently always find myself checking an empty wrist whenever I forget my watch. So two days ago I got an Apple Watch. Basically, this thing's a toy for sure. Even in two days...

    Sandra Bullock

Since I'm neither famous nor important I don't worry about it when I'm home. I'm more worried about burglary. I mean, I'll lock the doors at night, but I don't arm the alarm.

    Under cabinet LED lighting

I just replaced my under cabinet lights. I had fluorescent fixtures, all hardwired, and wanted to go with something softer and dimmable. Eventually settled on some 'American Lighting' LED bars (Home depot was selling as 'Irradiant'). They were available in 8, 18, 24, and 32" sizes (maybe a 12"...

    Nuvo Music Port MPS4

Pandora continues to be the best performing streaming service on my MPS4. I was just appreciating the more 'curated' lists on Spotify.

    Smart door lock— Your choice?

I'd like to add a few locks to my house that I can automate and check status on. (I often forget to lock a door somewhere). I also like the offerings with a keypad. I want to be able to issue and revoke codes, that's better than keys that say, my cleaning lady can just copy. Since I may want to...

new system with a central rack for all av equipment

Yeah, crazy expensive for sure. I'm not sure if I'd worry about the TV decoding it. The best HDTV I've seen is my TV decoding a local OTA broadcast. If I had this setup... I'd have more TVs. No other hardware to buy!

new system with a central rack for all av equipment

I don't really have a true video distribution system in my house, just DirecTV at all the TVs and then local AppleTVs or other sources as I see fit. However, while researching something for a different, small project I came across something awesome that I'm surprised I haven't seen used in my...
