More UPB problems with a UPS

I think I found the filter that I currently have installed on my UPS, just for information's sake.   http://www.homecontrols.com/X10-PRO-Noise-Filter-3-Wire-XPXPF

More UPB problems with a UPS

You all are very helpful, thanks.  I ordered the PCS SPR.  I don't think that will solve the problem though, as even on the same phase, there is no signal. But I can't pass up this price on an SPR.  I have to wonder why the price is so low.

More UPB problems with a UPS

I actually got a different brand filter set rated at 15 A, 4 or 5 years ago and wired it in.  That hasn't helped much.  I don't recall the brand, it's in the panel right now. Are you suggesting taking two of these in parallel?

More UPB problems with a UPS

two things.  I don't know if I can use a repeater, I don't know which gen switches they are. and two, the worst zones are on the same phase as the pim, so a repeater could not help there.   two things..... no three.  Three!  I checked the repeaters, they are $300 - $400!

More UPB problems with a UPS

Is it possible to tell if devices are Gen 1, 2 or 3 from Upstart? I see firmware versions 1.01, 1.04, 1.05, 1.06 and 1.08, but I have no idea which "Gen" they are.

More UPB problems with a UPS

There's an interesting idea.  Is it possible to connect 2 PIM's to an Omni?  Put one on each phase? I have one spare serial port.

Hi Pete, I never really went away, I've been lurking here, reading posts now and then.

More UPB problems with a UPS

I posted here years ago when I had severe UPB signal problems.  We traced the signal sucker to a UPS.  For the last 4 years or so, things seemed be ok, but now we are back to 50% of UPB units are dead, and signal levels are 2 for some devices.  What's even stranger is that some devices are fine...

    DoorBell

The zone inputs are not designed to have an AC voltage applied to them.  As Work2Play said, you may be able to directly connect just the doorbell button to the zone, or, if you prefer, use a relay to drive the zone input.   One problem I can predict right away is that the zone inputs are not...

    Voice Activated Home Automation

The walls are drawn using Visio. But all of the controls, windows, doors, thermostats, card readers, and such, are custom controls. They respond to events from the HAI, and can trigger events. Doors for example turn from green-hatched to red-zigzag when they are opened...You don't see in the...

    Voice Activated Home Automation

Thanks. I'm a dotNet developer at work, so I prefer the Microsoft dotNet 4.0 api for the speech recognition and synthesis. All of the grammar rules are written in C#.

    Voice Activated Home Automation

Here's a really rough quick video of my security system, I built it myself, about 3,000 lines of C code. I don't have a lot of time, so the video was not rehearsed and the audio sucks, but... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwFe3jWTBbg I can do most anything with it. Garage door, yes. HVAC...

    Dog Activated Garage Door Challenge

He is a huge Russian Doberman and they are lever handles. He opens doors with his nose, then closes them with his front paws. We had bubble-wrap taped to the doors to help keep them from getting scratched up. He still opens inside-doors in the house. At night he "patrols" and opens the doors...

    Dog Activated Garage Door Challenge

I was looking to do the same thing with Arduino and RFID. Before I even got started designing, my wife trained our Dobe to open the front door, and CLOSE IT when he came back in. That was really cool, until he started letting himself out to chase the UPS man. Very uncool. Now we have to keep...

Insteon Switches in an Unheated Garage? A Bad Idea?

I hear you, but in we are trying to trick the girls into laying overtime. I use the SUNRISE/SUNSET params and automation to give them 14 hours of daylight, even though winter is coming. Normally they slack off on the eggs when the days get shorter. Ba GAWK!

Insteon Switches in an Unheated Garage? A Bad Idea?

I don't have Insteon, but I do have UPB devices in outdoor sheds and even 2 in a chicken coop.

Noob question about OmniPro events and outdoor motion detectors

We have used the Optex line for decades. I use the LX-402 model for outdoor residential. Rokonet Watchout on some difficult situations, though still not perfect.

    2nd Floor Laundry Protection Advice

Since a picture is worth 1000 words, here's a shot of the cleanup just beginning after a kid started the bathtub running, then left and forgot it. Destruction EVERYWHERE.

    2nd Floor Laundry Protection Advice

It's great that you are putting a pan under the washer, but you all seem to fixated on the washing machine alone. In all of my MANY water disasters over the last 40 years, none of them have been washing machines. They are all kinds of things. Please don't leave out all the other potential...
