When the TR-40 is set to operate in Celsius mode, it also reports the temperature values in the same mode over the serial link. Thus any conversion would have been done either in the Elk or somewhere else. But I would tend to believe that the Elk simply reports the temperature value that it gets...

I'd say that 4 amps is ok, as long as the cable length is not something out of the ordinary. If you can keep it to 60 feet or less, I don't see a problem. If its a couple of hundred feet, then you should check the voltage drop as others have suggested.

I'm not aware of any tentative release dates. From what I've heard, the hardware platform itself is done and they're working on the executive.

I didn't resolve the two IR receiver problem (it's ok with just one receiver) but the first thing I would suggest is to use shielded cabling instead of the usual Cat 5 wiring. These are analog signals and are subject to noise pickup.
