    CocoonTech turns 20!

Oh yes, it's been a fun ride. My best memories are the ones where I was greatly involved with the ADI Ocelot, discussing it to great depth on ADI's support forum, and even writing their instruction manuals. But the greatest fun was simply interacting with the members, which is what forums are...

    Future of Z-Wave and Zigbee

Well, not exactly. Philips Hue bulbs are controlled by Alexa using the local API, and Alexa can still control the bulbs without any internet access. I'm using the BWS Systems HA Bridge (which emulates a Philips bridge) and it works fine with Alexa in local mode. I control X10 devices, my Ocelot...

    Diversity...in X10 modules

It's all rebadged, except for those BSR ones, where the codewheels are on the sides. Some companies like Leviton and Smarthome did design their own versions of some modules. Look at the wikipedia entry on X10, you'll see many more brands listed too.

    Diversity...in X10 modules

Hah, just noticed I had two RCA modules in there. Ok, so 6 brands of modules, plus in other X10 gear: Leviton, PCS, Smarthome

    Diversity...in X10 modules

As most of us already know, the X10 modules were sold under many brands and names. That probably played a significant role in making them so widespread. Marketing to different interest groups. The most widespread seem to be the generic X10 Powerhouse ones, and possibly the Radio Shack Plug 'n...

    I'm back, after many years!

Electron, great hearing from you again! Another soul who appreciates the reliability of the Ocelot. It's locked up on me exactly once in 22 years. Not too shabby. I'm actually getting into a bit of code writing these days, fired up my trusty (if dated) VB6 to try a few tricks. The first thing...

    I'm back, after many years!

No, I was at a smaller table, located about where the picture was taken.

    I'm back, after many years!

Well I have a hard time remembering individual people that I met at that time, but that's quite possible. I remember the get together a bunch of us had at a Golden Corral buffet one evening. All that was made possible for me due to an invitation by Applied Digital. I'm grateful to them.

    I'm back, after many years!

Hehe, don't start creating expectations now! Seriously though, it's just fun to relink with some of the old timers, back when home automation was just getting started and it was still a geeky gadget thing to most people. But those were also the most fun times, when everything was still new and...

    I'm back, after many years!

Hello (again)! I've first snooped around the forum to see if any of the names I remembered from years ago are still here, and recognized Brave Sir Robbin and Electron. They'll probably remember me as the Ocelot/Leopard guy... which I'm still using! I had sort of let go of the hobby side of...

ELK M1G & RCS TR40 thermostat error in Celcius

I still don't know where you're seeing a deg F to deg C conversion. First of all, the DS1721 temperature sensor chip used by the thermostat works in deg C internally, so if anything it should be more accurate in Celsius mode since it needs to do a conversion to report in degrees F. Then...

Yes you can, but you cannot set it below 3...

ELK M1G & RCS TR40 thermostat error in Celcius

When the TR-40 is set to operate in Celsius mode, it also reports the temperature values in the same mode over the serial link. Thus any conversion would have been done either in the Elk or somewhere else. But I would tend to believe that the Elk simply reports the temperature value that it gets...

How much Amp can I transfer over Cat-5 with 12V DC with all 4 Pairs

I'd say that 4 amps is ok, as long as the cable length is not something out of the ordinary. If you can keep it to 60 feet or less, I don't see a problem. If its a couple of hundred feet, then you should check the voltage drop as others have suggested.

    Conservation via HA...

I've also done the "random lights" routine when the alarm system is armed. I'm using the Ocelot to do this (as well as everything else). I monitor my dual fuel heating system to know when I'm at the high electricity rate (via a signal from the special watthour meter) and do things like cut off...

    Warranty on RCS stats?

Does anyone know how long the warranty is on RCS thermostats? My TR-40 is acting very strangely (eg. room temperature is either displayed correctly...or as being -64, or 00). I've only had it about 2 years or so and I can't see any warranty information in the online docs.

    Any News on ADI Firecat?

Joe, no idea on price. The "feature changes" are basically that its a new 32 bit cpu platform. The Ocelot and Leopard are based on the 8 bit Z-80 and it has reached the end of its life cycle. The product will have IP connectivity and a high speed bus for some new expansion module types. In the...

    Any News on ADI Firecat?

I'm not aware of any tentative release dates. From what I've heard, the hardware platform itself is done and they're working on the executive.

    Buffalo IR sensor behavior

I didn't resolve the two IR receiver problem (it's ok with just one receiver) but the first thing I would suggest is to use shielded cabling instead of the usual Cat 5 wiring. These are analog signals and are subject to noise pickup.
