Cheapo 5MP IP HD smart boards

Just a heads-up, for anyone that doesn't know- the main IC is from HiSilicon, which is Huawei.

    Outdoor Wireless Access Point Recommendations

I'm no expert either... but my understanding is that the bigger unit would be better for multiple high speed users. I would guess that a small number of users would probably not see much difference between these two units, unless one was a streaming gamer. ;-)

    Outdoor Wireless Access Point Recommendations

I've been using Ubiquity for a long time... I put a outdoor access point up on the second floor (indoors actually) and it covers pretty much my whole property (1 acre). One other access point in the basement as it got a little low down there. Pro level management SW.

New Home w/Speakers, looking for simple system

That's an old Niles system... https://www.crutchfield.com/S-5KPDDZR2Mge/p_190INTPAD/Niles-Intellipad-6-source-keypad.html

    Kitchen counter LED endeavor

That's a lot of flexibility... almost always pay extra for that. Also if you are switching high current AC, you will have to pay for that. I don't think you will ever see a box of 50 for $99. I'd be happy if I could buy an insteon type switch for $10-15. With working local buttons. ;-)   Found...

    Electrolytic Capacitor Replacement question

Sounds like fun! I started a hack on the Dot to route the media out the jack and keep the command/responses local. Its still laying on my bench with its guts all over. ;-)

    Electrolytic Capacitor Replacement question

Hot cap can also mean that it can't handle the ripple current. Without know exactly what the original part was, and what its specs were, its tough to say. Ripple could also be out of spec if the supply is failing in some other way.  I'v had mixed luck replacing caps- once I got another few years...

Anyone using a fluid extractor to change oil?

I bring used oil to walmart. I also buy it there, but they don't check. I used to bring it to a garage that had a waste oil burner for heat- but they couldn't always take it in the summer. ;-)

    Recruiting for Alexa Smart Home

OK, thanks. I'm continuing with my hack as I am impatient that way. ;-) Proof of concept is done, I'll put in the HW tonight and see if it does what I hope or if I need to tweak!

    Recruiting for Alexa Smart Home

Oooo, a pipeline! ;-)   I just sent a request in via the app- I'm using a Dot in the kitchen, and I want to send the streaming audio into my whole house system... BUT I want the commands (and their feedback) to stay in the kitchen, on the built in speaker. To me, this seems like a pretty common...

Iphone 7 has no headphone jack

I'm not an apple guy (at all), but keep in mind that they are including a lightning to 3.5mm adapter in the box.  And yes, they are removing it for space reasons, primarily. Compare a 3.5mm to a micro USB (or lightning) - big difference, They claim 14% larger battery with the change, 2 hours...

Polk Audio - How To Choose Center Speaker?

If you are handy, you could build a box for a third inwall... Wouldn't be too tough.

    HDMI matrix switch

Too much SW in the HDMI handshake.... they always find ways to mess it up! I used a straight up 4:1 switch for a long time- that worked well. Once in a while would still need to disconnect/reconnect to get it right. That was years ago though. Hoped they had improved things.   IF the user did not...

    HDMI matrix switch

Haven't used HDMI matrix switches... would this limitation apply all the time, or only if you were trying to source the two different displays at the same time?

Sub Woofer Audio Cable - Oh Crap!

I did an infinite baffle- my basement (unfinished) is the "enclosure". Only downside to this (and any other inwall/floor) is that you can't change the position to tune the room. If you have a bad null you are stuck with it. Otherwise smooth and flat response...

    Reality Check: HDMI voltages

Yup- if the video is visible behind the menu, then it has to be sending the full resolution over the HDMI.... that rep is really out to lunch. ;-)

    Reality Check: HDMI voltages

Agree with most of your points, especially the overall conclusion. A couple of the intermediate points are a little off though. I2C is not differential, and is a slow speed command and control... maybe you were thinking LVDS? Completely agree on all your voltage comments. 480p vs 1080p - this...
