I've been thinking about doing almost the same thing. Do all of the devices that you wish to power with the UPS use some sort of plug in transformer? Are they the same voltage? I was thinking about using an Elk battery backup power supply since all of the devices I wish to power are 12V DC...
I just bought a 45 foot and a 40 foot toslink cable from Blue Jeans cable. They work great.

If you end up using a system with switches in each room, vs. all loads controlled from a central location, try and use deep electrical switch boxes. You might also specify that the house is wired with the neutral in the switch location (no switch loops).
Hope this helps,
Kenny
You might also try and mount the conduits away from the studs so that if the drywallers miss when they nail or screw on the drywall they are less likely to hit the conduit.
Neat idea! It will be interesting to see how things shake out in the next few weeks with the AppleTV. Is Indigo available in Universal Binary? What about the Serial Bridge driver? From what I have read so far programs that are not UB can run very slow.
You might want to call PCS lighting. I was told a year ago that they were working on a UPB switch that would dim a flourescent ballast.
Hope this helps

When permlight said that the leds can be dimmed, they meant using the old school resistance style dimmers. Most modern electronic dimmers use a triac, and do some form of waveform clipping.

Unless things have changed since the last system I installed, Radio RA doesn't need programming software. The Setup guide for a basic system ishere.
If you are going to do a bigger system and use a Chronos time clock and system bridge then you should probably read these two guides as well...
Try using this. Broan model 70 thermostat I have used these a few times in equipment closets, mounted near the ceiling, to control exhaust fans. They work great.
Hope this helps,

The UPB device part number is WMC6*, the part that works with X-10 SMST6*. The * indcates what color the device is. They look the same but work with different systems.
Hope this helps,
Kenny
