    Door/Window Reed swithes

I am replacing a Westec 5000S system. I think it has 1.5K resistors in 3/4 inch holes. Anybody have any suggestions/solutions? I have read the various solutions on the forums per adding ~700 ohm in the can or at the contact. Leaning toward adding a resistor at the contact. I cant find a...

Voice output - Elk M1 and others

I just replaced a Napco alarm and ancient X10 controller with a M1. It rates right up there with my first microwave, calculator, computer, dishwasher, climate control in the car, and house. Your going to love it. <_<

MavRic I have Vonage/Comcast and indicated that when I signed up with NextAlarm. During the test period I made sure it was logging arm/disarm violations and nightly reporting. Then I went to activate my account and it said I needed to register the ABN thing. I just sent a service ticket to...

    Using Terminals in Electrical Boxes

I ordered some of the push in wire nuts from the local guy. I'll let you know how they work. Lowes here sell Ideal push ins. The local guy Automation Outlet Nashville TN is much cheaper than online. JackI

    Using Terminals in Electrical Boxes

Ditto, they're a real nail splitter. If you stick the lever of one into the hole of another and pry up it works fine. Also it stings to have one of the levers snap shut against your finger. Jack

    Using Terminals in Electrical Boxes

There is a local contact here for these so I ordered a box of each. The really nice thing about these is you can strip and cover one wire at a time and its the only one exposed. I never turn the power off so this is a real plus. ;) Any arcing is inside, nice. Jack

    First Power up Elk M1

I would seriously not do this without ELKRP the software to see/set this stuff, and a multi-meter of course. But anyway: On page 31 of the printed manual I have: Menu 05 - zone definitions, for "type" of zone there are 7 choices 0 thru 6. 0 is EOL(with a resistor) 1 is normally closed 2 is...

    First Power up Elk M1

If the zones are not jumperred with a sensor, resistor, or disabled they need to be set to normally open. I set all mine to NO then added resistors to the first two and set them to EOL so I could simulate the door open close and play around before actually installing the panel. Jack

    New ELK M1 hooked up

I received my M1 today. I accidentally erased the application in one of my keypads but with a little research on Cocoontech I downloaded/reloaded it and it is now working fine. Ethernet works fine, alarm works fine, X10 works fine, still working on the phone/central station and email. All in...
