Outdoor LED security/flood lights mounted under eaves

I don’t know if the threads are standard, but other manufacturers might offer a similar box cover with a different design. A couple years ago I went with lights from RAB lighting, decent quality, offered a hood for narrowing the light beam. The third direction of adjustment that you’re looking...

    Russound Advice

You can become a certified installer online. It’s been a few years since then, but IIRC I told my ‘distributor’ that I wanted it, and they told Russound. Russound then sent me an email to register. I took the course, and gained access to the software. Did a lot of reading, and eventually...

    Low voltage wiring boxes

Be sure to run the LV cables you need outside the conduit, before the foam. Save the conduit for future cables. Dealing with line voltage boxes and conduit for LV cables is challenging. If cutting the spray foam is easy, I’d probably go that route. With LV rings, the conduit just needs to be...

Single gang CAT5 touchscreen or controller?

Each time you paint a room, move the control from the ganged switch location to a spot higher up, at thermostat height (~60").   It's what I did when I installed my Nuvo 2-gang controls, moved from in-wall volume controls at switch height.   Now I'm repainting, and removing the 2-gang...

    Lutron RadioRA3

RA2 was incompatible with the original Radio RA. RA3 is backwards compatible - only need a new master controller; RA2 devices (most) can still be controlled with RA3. That's huge.   AVS RA3 discussion

Test CAT6 run that quit working?

Could also be water in the conduit. Buried conduit usually, eventually, collects water. Cable rated for direct burial?

Electrical (non-LV) wiring raceways and hooks

I'm unsure if you should use Romex in a raceway, in a damp location (would that be considered damp?).  Since there is no inspector, do you need to follow NEC guidelines? Is there a nearby AHJ to consult?

    Baffled - Cat 6 Connection.

I also battled corrosion in St. Croix. I had t re-terminate the POTS connections a few times, over 10-15 years, seaside condo.

    Baffled - Cat 6 Connection.

Maybe switch up the wiring within the RJ45 connection? One or more of the conductors may be bad. Not all conductors, though.

    Facial Recognition

Yes! That is what we need! You are absolutely correct. Rules governing the rights of private citizens of the US.   Most people will agree to the use of their data, for free/cheap tools. Some will not.   Again, I don't think it will happen. Too much $$$ for corporations, who own the government.

    Facial Recognition

I would like the US to have an amendment giving the right to privacy, with very specific guidelines.   I don't believe in any 'natural' rights. It's just a very good idea, in our framework of liberties.   Personal opinions, but I'm not alone. If enough US citizens feel the same way, it will...

Buying another Elk M1G. ...Maybe... Recommendations?

Worthington Distribution. Apply for dealer status.   I haven't bought any Elk devices from them, but have bought other things for many years.   Online store is awful; I email when I want something.

Minimum size conduit for optical fiber?

I've never pulled cable or fiber at a great distance like that, but I would have concerns about too long of a run to pull. Would probably need pull boxes along the way. Ask the rep.

Wiring a Radio RA2 Auxillary Repeater

I would use direct burial rated cable, in the conduit. Assume the conduit will fill with water. You could use 2 non-Lutron branded cables, and save a few dillars, one for power and the other for signal. Slightly more labor. I used a non-Lutron brand of 2 pair, 18/2 + 22/2 twisted and shielded...

    somebody looking over my shoulder

I don't think clearing cookies removes tracking like it used to. Other tokens can be used that aren't cleared.   Couple years ago I configured a new car online, using Tor. I sent the configuration via Proton email, new account, text only, to the local dealership with my proposed cost. The...
