    [How-to] Get a 1-wire Temperature Sensor working

I wrote about my experience setting up my first 1-wire network with an attached temperature sensor, the DS18S20. It's very basic, but I wasn't able to find anything similar when I was trying to get the network up, so I thought I would share it. It's on my site here. If there are any...

    onewireviewer can't find port

Were you able to confirm that the appropriate drivers are installed? I read that they are supposed to come with the viewer application, but I installed them seperately and got it working. I'm using the USB adapter, though. Here are the Windows drivers...

I want to monitor 29 Doors!

If you don't really care about controlling things but are primarily trying to just log data, the Arduino might be worth checking out as a relatively cheap DIY solution. Might require some coding, though. Arduino - http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_i...products_id=666 Reed Switch for...

    Monoprice as source?

I have also used monoprice for mainly cable and it works great. Just bought a projector ceiling mount for them that I will install in the next week or two, so we'll see how that type of hardware works. They definitely have nice prices!

Backup strategies for my PC using Acronis

Do any of you use any online backup services? I've been looking for an online service that will not only backup data but also allow me to sync it between computers. I now this isn't practical for media libraries or other huge amounts of data, but I think just a few gigs would be plenty for all...

    The PERFECT lighting technology

I'm an Insteon user and have had no problems with it, but when I build a home in the future I will definitely be looking for a product that has a dedicated line. If it were ethernet-ready, even better.

SmartHome announces INSTEON compatible motion sensor floodlight fixture

Hmmm... I've been waiting for one of these. Might have to try one out later this year... after they ship the first batch.

    marvell plug computer

Cool device. I'm surprised by the low price. As this technology becomes cheaper and cheaper I hope it starts being manufactured into appliances and other normally unconnected devices in the home. That would be sweet... As it stands now, I wonder if this device could be used as an Asterisk...

Insteon - new users' experiences - mine's been pretty good

I installed a handful of Insteon devices about 6 months ago. Hardware includes switches, outlets, and a PLM. I'm controlling it all through MisterHouse. I setup most of the hardware in places of the house we don't use much, so there isn't a lot of daily interaction with it yet. However, I do...

    Linux users, need your suggestions.

Just last weekend I set up uTorrent on my Ubuntu box with Wine. I had tried to avoid it because I haven't been impressed with wine in the past. uTorrent, however, seems to be working very well. The webUI even passed the wife test.

Can someone get this in the "How-To's and Guides" section? It's very informative. I'm glad someone bumped it. Thanks.

    Here are my requirements

If you're looking at Insteon and you're not afraid of some programming, make sure you check out MisterHouse and its Insteon capabilities. I've been very happy with it so far. I haven't really done much beyond basic lighting control, but it seems the capabilities for more complex control is not...

Getting Started - MisterHouse and what hardware?

Ok, that makes sense why the neutral wire is used on the switch then. Thanks for the link, 123. My HA project #2 (automate front porch light) is going to require adding a neutral wire to the circuit. I think I'll be able to do it pretty easily, though, so I'm not going to give up on that one...
