Show Off Your Home Touch Screen Interface - 2013 Edition

Awesome interfaces everyone.  I figured I'd chime in here as well since I'm snooping around.  Here's some screenshots of my touchscreen interface that I use.  It's my own software I wrote, and a full writeup is on my blog if anyone is interested  http://www.mysmarthomeblog.com/page--22.html

    Automating Plantation Shutters

I know this is an old thread, but I figured I'd give my solution in case anyone ever looks up on how to motorize plantation blinds. Have a look here: http://www.mysmarthomeblog.com/page--23.html

I've got the automation bug bad - in search of new ideas!

It's pretty simple actually. I'm not sure what software you are using, but take a look here for more detailed information: http://www.mysmarthomeblog.com/page--11.html

Room Occupancy Counters -- Need Help!

Hey Sam, I'll have to look those up. I do all the detecting in the PIC and all the counting logic in MisterHouse just like you were thinking. The PICs are not smart enough to be a brain, so I just use them as the eyes :)

Room Occupancy Counters -- Need Help!

I finally got around to doing a semi-complete writeup. I have pictures of the completed PCBs and a bunch more of me installing it. I still need to add a parts list and all that stuff when I can get some time. I'm worn out from all the door frames I have pulled off the past few weeks :) Here...

Room Occupancy Counters -- Need Help!

Sorry, forgot to respond to this one :) I think I can. I actually just ordered 3 PCB boards from ExpressPCB last night. I've never made a PCB board before, so hopefully it will go well. I can either give you the PCB board design file and component list, or have more printed and make a kit...

Room Occupancy Counters -- Need Help!

It's possible. I mounted mine 43.5" high just because I knew I would never get false positives from swinging hands. I did try it lower and it worked pretty well. The only thing you would have to watch out for is if you swing your hands out when you walk. If on the off chance your hands...

Room Occupancy Counters -- Need Help!

Done! I just finished the first door frame after weeks of testing and contemplating on the best way to do this. It works perfectly. Lights are instant on when entering, and instant off when leaving :) I have about 14 more door frames to do. Once I get a few more I'll start implementing a...

Room Occupancy Counters -- Need Help!

I am heading on vacation tomorrow for 10 days to the Caribbean, but when I get back I'm going to work on getting these door sensors/counters installed. Hopefully I can take some pictures/video of my door frames and get you guys to help me figure out the different pieces together that make it...

Room Occupancy Counters -- Need Help!

My biggest problem I have found with this is a) the cameras are so big and hard to mount/wire in some locations on the wall, and B) Lighting plays such a crucial role with the accuracy. I have 5 camera setup around my property and the biggest thing I have to worry about is light screwing with...

Room Occupancy Counters -- Need Help!

Lol well, to answer your question, unless you have a habit of constantly getting off the bed or standing next to the bed when you are "physically active", the downward pressure on the bed won't change fast enough for the sensor to report it. My sensor takes the average force, once every second...

Room Occupancy Counters -- Need Help!

I completely agree. The more tools and sensors the better. When it comes to me though, I'm lazy and I try to push the limits. This is probably a little complicated to describe, but the counting aspect of it is what I really want. Here is why: - Body Count - A household body count is, for...

Room Occupancy Counters -- Need Help!

This is actually one of the reasons I want to do this too. I have a cat who thinks she should be part of the circus and sets off mine. I'll definitely post the schematic, full writeup, and code to program the chips (it's easy) when I get it all installed and working. I might could even sell...

Room Occupancy Counters -- Need Help!

Lol installing the enforcer was more of a "cut until it fits" project ;) I might can tackle this. I guess I just lack the experience when it comes to building construction. Since my doorways are painted, it almost looks like everything is one piece, even though I know it's not. I guess I...

Room Occupancy Counters -- Need Help!

Well, the issue for me with Pulsors are that I can't "count" people. When more than one person walks in a direction, the Pulsors would indicate a single person walked through due to the area of the joist it covers. I actually use Pulsors as bed occupancy sensors (see my website in signature...

Room Occupancy Counters -- Need Help!

Hey guys, Note: See pictures attached below. I've come to the conclusion that I really, really want to have room based occupancy detection AND counting. Motion detectors are just not fast enough or accurate enough for me and my setup. I want to know when someone enters a room, leaves a room...

    Running wire through crown molding

I know this is an old post, but I figured I would update it since I finally got around to actually running the wire behind the crown molding. I took some pictures and posted them on my website along with a brief overview on what I did in case anyone ever wants to do the same. Click here to see...

How can I tell if the front door is opened because I'm coming home and not because I'm leaving?

I use a motion detector in the entry area/room and if the motion trips at least 10 seconds before the door opens, it knows I am leaving. If the door opens first and then the motion trips less then 5 seconds after, it knows I'm entering. I have it set a little more complex than that, but thats...

    Running wire through crown molding

Hey Guys, I live in a two story townhouse on a slab with an attic, so running wires is a bit of a headache for me. I've been wanting to run an extra Ethernet jack near the LCD TV in the family room downstairs for a while as well as some other low voltage wiring (PIRs, contacts, etc.). I have...

When To Say "Hello" aka: How to tell if you are entering the home

Well, I use MisterHouse on a linux box to control my house (It's written in Perl). Using the BlueZ utilities (standard bluetooth driver for linux), on bootup my computer makes a virtual "serial port" between my phone and the computer with the bluetooth MAC address. The serial port is created...
