    Help with receptacle control

With zwave, the devices you want to look are the ones that support the association class for directly controlling other devices. Cooper aspire devices (switches) will support associations. Leviton does not hold the patent but rather Lutron holds the patent for that. Some others use scenes to...

What ZigBee devices would you like to see?

I am assuming that you are talking about the HA profile?   I second the light switches request -- Both dimmers and relay switches are needed.  Also convertible dimmers (like upb) would be a nice addition as well.   Some other nice features for these switches would be the ability to monitor load...

    Q&A chat session with Ube

Are you sure about the scenes?  On the webpage they talk about scenes using the from the app and not being triggered from the switch it self.   Steve

    Q&A chat session with Ube

So if one opts out of the cloud does the switch provide instant status notification to the local LAN devices or does the unit have to be polled?

    Q&A chat session with Ube

I have a few questions concerning the feature sets of these devices:   1)  Do these devices provide instant status notification of changes?       a)  If so, how does this get around the lutron's patent (z-wave issue -- removing association 1 ) on this? 2)  Can these devices function without a...

    Q&A chat session with Ube

Wouldn't one have to configure the dimmers themselves to not ship the data to the cloud rather than depend on the user downloading an app to their device?  Or does that app, via the local wifi, go out to the devices themselves and configure each one to send the data to the cloud?

    Premise Premise Open Source?

I would be interested/help as well. As others have said before, being opening source would really help get the interest going since it would no longer be a dead end product.

Is there a reason that something like the beagleboard MX or the pandaboard ? Both are fairly reasonable with the price, plus they have quite a bit of memory. Steve

How much are our switches costing us?

Another interesting point for comparison would be what are the operating costs for hard wired solutions? Steve

How much are our switches costing us?

This site, http://www.powerstream.com/VA-Watts.htm explains some of the simple equations for calculating watts for AC fairly well. the things that we has to look at as well are the following (I am guessing the meter takes some of this into account as well) 1) The simple equations work...

How much are our switches costing us?

Actually residential normally gets charged by the watts being used which is this case was 4 watts which when the math was done was about 4/5 (0.8) of a watt per switch. Remember Watts=volts * amps only for DC power not AC power. Steve

Two houses off of one M1G?

From the sounds of it these are two separate houses right? If that assumption is correct, no matter what solution you use you will have to be very careful about creating ground loops between the two houses since the electrical ground for each of the houses are different.

    PC HDMI video cards

Some video cards actually have audio hardware on them to output the audio through the hdmi interface. The alot of the modern ATI cards that have an hdmi interface on them will output the audio as well. The HD 4350 and HD 4550 both have an integrated realtek audio on the card. Steve
