    Powering smokes just outside can?

So you'd leave the box open without a cover and the splices exposed?  Whatever.   So you'd feed the incoming cables directly into the box through a bare knockout hole?  Maybe you're visualizing it differently, but I see the smoke cables going into the box, spliced, and a single cable going...

    Powering smokes just outside can?

Whether your panel is surface or flush mounted, whether your cables come into the panel from the top or back, how you're going to route cables to the new jbox ... it all makes slight differences in where and how you put the new box and what you need.   To get an idea of what you're looking for...

    Powering smokes just outside can?

What are you asking?   If your panel is surface mounted, the jbox mounts on the wall.   A pic would help determine your course of action.

    Oy! M1XRFTW has to be Zone 2 (& 3 & 4)

Yup.   Zero.  Don't forget to tweak your rules.   In the old days, I'd have been tempted to hack the database and fix it. But, like Roger Murtaugh, "I'm getting too old for this sh!t".   Trying out the Kirkland (Costco) Craft Beers tonight.  Not bad for $20 a case.

    Elk M1 Keypad Recommendations

Use the Elk-BBK2.  It has old work tabs so you'll need to cut the hole after the drywall is up.  Leave the wire in the wall with a couple of feet of slack.   It only sticks out of the wall 3/8".

    Elk M1 Keypad Recommendations

I like the KP2 with the backbox.   Semi flush mount and gives it a nice finished look.      You can mix keypads.

    T8 LED Fixtures

Edited 1st post to reflect increase in standard T8 tubes from 48W to 51W after tubes were warmed up. Added below info to 1st post.   I ordered a couple of more LED tubes from ebay.   2015/07/13 Standard Utilitech 4' twin tube fixture from Lowes. With 2 "USA GREENLIGHTS" tubes from ebay, 5000K...

    Baby back pork ribs

Bigger hogs, bigger ribs.  Its probably more cost effective overall to get the hogs as big as possible.   http://virtualweberbullet.com/ribselect.html   Last ribs I got from Costco were Swift Premium, 2 racks, about 7-3/4 pounds total, 3.99/lb.

2k vs 2.2k Ohm EOL Resistors for Elk

I think it will work.  Page 9 of the install manual says the valid range of an EOL zone is 4.0v to 8.8v.  It also says an open zone should be 13.8v, but all mine are 13.6v max.  Anyway, a 2K resistor should get you about 6.5v.   There's no substitue for field experience.  Try it and see.  In...

    Mounting Siren *and* speaker?

You could avoid that by having an electric shutoff valve that closes in an alarm, and have another valve, like a sprinker valve, open to relieve the pressure and dump the house.   Art is subjective.

    Fusing Each Power Consuming Load

Most ATC-PTC fuses or ATC circuit breakers are 10A or more.   Maybe you can get a PTC with leads and slip it in the ATC slot, or solder it into an ATC fuse body.

    Fusing Each Power Consuming Load

Not a terrible idea, but a low ROI.   In a dead short, you'll want the fuse to blow before the board's internal PTC kicks out.   You could try adapting an auto fuse block and load it 1/4A AGC fuses.  Smaller footprint than a PD board.

    Programing question for A/C fan

I think you can also do it the old fashioned way with wires. Use a relay to keep from crossing the 24vac power supplies in each unit.   24vac coil relay. Connect unit1's cool (typically yellow) and common (typically black) to the coil. Connect unit2's fan (typically green) and power (typically...

New Elk M1 Gold Install - Enclosure/Rack Recommendation

Sorry.   Baby backs were ready and the race was supposed to be starting.   I wanted to add that you should be OK with a 28" Elk can.  Elk cans have the pre-drilled holes to mount the Elk-SWGs (card carriers).  With the 28" can, you can install a receptacle in the bottom so you don't need to plug...

    Mounting Siren *and* speaker?

Hell yeah, the louder the better.    The Elk's "intruder alert" message just doesn't cut it.   Make it really uncomfortable and disorienting and unless they're deaf they're not going to hang around.  According to some websites, the average time spent in a house is about 10 minutes.  Cut that...

    Mounting Siren *and* speaker?

Speakers, main and kp2 keypad, on the inside from output 1.   Elk 150RT siren on the outside, output 2 drives a relay, power from Altronix power supply.   Strobe on the outside, output 3 relay, power from Altronix power supply. Rule driven, 30 minutes.   Additional moose screamers on the inside...

Another new home DIY or install Security Question

$25/month * 36 months = $900 is a good deal for a basic alarm system with monitoring. You might want to ask who's doing the monitoring. You might want to ask what the fee is going to be after 3 years.   I seriously doubt you're going to get remote control for that price.   How long are you...

Two sensors (with resistors) on one zone

Two 1K ohm resistors in series are 2K ohms.   If you add a 2K resistor in parallel at the panel (brings the total NC resistance down to 1K), would that work?
