    What have mice cost you?

I tried the sticky trap just once. It worked, but I have never seen a larger pile of mouse poop in my life. It apparently used its final seconds on earth to eat all of the peanut butter it could reach and then poop it out. Since then, I just station 1 snap trap on either side of the garage...

    New Charmed Quark web site

Good God Dean, whatever you do, DON'T make a business decision based on something I said!! :) I am in no way representative of the human species, and my likes and dislikes are very peculiar, to say the least. I mean, I *noticed* that I couldn't scroll, but I didn't even think to mention...

    New Charmed Quark web site

Ya, that was true for me too with IE7. No scroll wheel workie....which I usually count as a major knock against any website I visit. I HATE dragging a scroll bar. How 2000's.....

Cheapest means to control a 20 amp load?

Heh, ya I suppose I could at that. I hadn't actually planned on using computer control with this relay...it was just a spare ALC relay and I knew I could add other simple contact buttons to extend the useful range throughout the shop....but it'd be trivial to hook it up to the system I have...

Cheapest means to control a 20 amp load?

Normally yes, that would work, but the hot from panel going to the orange is on a 20 amp breaker, and the ALC relay is only rated for 15 amps, so it's powered via a 15 amp breaker (which it shares with the closet outlets and lights).

Cheapest means to control a 20 amp load?

Surely Wiring was pretty straightforward. I bought an extra wall box to attach to the bottom of it to have room to work in...lots of wires. If I remember and anyone cares for it, I can post a pic of the install, but there's not much to see.

Cheapest means to control a 20 amp load?

Well, the setup works perfect, except for one small issue.... I had thought that if power was removed from the ALC relay, it would revert to off, instead of keeping its state. It doesn't. What this means is...if someone is using the dust collector and the power goes out (to the whole house)...

    Trouble communicating with RC-2000 thermostat

Grabbing for all the info here while I can..... Is there a specific bit for when it's using 2 stages of heat? Or emergency heat? The more resolution I can get on what the system is doing, the better. As far as humidity....the value that comes back from "current indoor humidity", is that 0 to...

    Trouble communicating with RC-2000 thermostat

Communication is going well now. However, I cannot seem to find any register to ask just to get a current status on what is actually going on in the system. (Is the fan on? Is a heating or cooling stage enabled?) I can only seem to ask what the system is SET to, not what it is actually...

How to keep the cats out of the baby room?

Hmm...neither of us can remember specifically. We were borrowing it from someone and I think she needed it back, and we didn't feel the need to buy one ourselves at that point. I'm thinking something less than 1 year old. I think we also became convinced that the cat wasn't interested in the...

    Trouble communicating with RC-2000 thermostat

Well, my circuit board definitely does NOT have that comm jumper shown in the manual. There's nothing there at all on that part of the circuit board. (board version 1.03 if that helps). So I guess that means the jumper on the comm terminals was the only one? I've already tried talking to it...

    Trouble communicating with RC-2000 thermostat

Ok, I see it in the install manual. That's not the jumper I was thinking of, so I'll have to wait until I get home to see if that jumper is removed or not. Great tip, thanks.

    Trouble communicating with RC-2000 thermostat

Hmmm... an excellent suggestion. There *is* a jumper on the circuit board, and I don't know what it's for. I did see the jumper on the wiring terminals, and at first I left it there, but then I went back and realized it was keeping my TX line tied up probably....so i removed THAT jumper...

How to keep the cats out of the baby room?

Our first kid we were also cat paranoid, and we used what nov suggested....a canopy that fits over the top of the crib. Keeps the cat out of the crib, but otherwise everything is open as normal. Wasn't very hard to use (not cumbersome)

    Trouble communicating with RC-2000 thermostat

Thanks for the help Brian! Ya, I sent hex bytes of (0x)010203. I made sure it was set to serial and I changed the baud rate to 1200 in case the distance was too long for it (it's probably a 50 ft+ length of wire) Love the thermostat, btw! Just need to talk to it now....
