Home Depot and other HA walk in stores?

I was wondering where you guys get your odds and ends in the offline world? There are times I like to swing by Home Depot spontaneously to get quickport connectors, gang boxes, tools, connectors, etc.. But was wondering if you guys recommend other nationwide chains or something in the...

Improve network reliability for wired and wireless networks when using a consumer based router

Great post. Much appreciated and very timely. I setup a WRT300N and USR9106 as Wireless Access Points recently and found inSSIDer very useful for finding free channels. Your other tips will only improve the situation as I have a lot of issues with drops, and with WPA Shared Keys not being...

    iPad Wall Mount Options

The Savant is 2.5 inches deep. I don't fancy cutting any more wholes in my wall, plus it looks expensive (feedback?) and it doesn't look as grab-and-go friendly as the Dockalot (if that ever sees the light of day).

Nuvo Grand Concerto - no sound

Hi there, I have a Nuvo Grand Concerto (firmware 2.57) and the T2 FM/AM (firmware 2.03g). In my old house one of the amp cards stopped working, so i simply didn't use it. I mothballed the kit for two years and just recently reinstalled it in a new house. I forgot it has a 120v only power...

    iPad Wall Mount Options

I agree. This the best yet. I asked them it it was paintable or if there is space to stick a mirror on the back plane.

    Telephone/door opener advice

Spent some time looking into the Siemens HC450 Door Entry system - which looked perfect, but the door strike connectors are mounted on the intercom unit meaning that any robber could unscrew the front cover, apply 12v to the door strike cables and they're in!!! I found it too unbelievable to be...

    Telephone/door opener advice

Now, this is an interesting alternative. I'm in Europe and the HC450 Door Entry System seems to be available. Along with the S685IP phone this could be a winner. Thanks for the tip!

    Telephone/door opener advice

Hi there, I need to get a telephone system for: - 1x phone line coming into the house - 4x wireless handsets - VOIP [nice to have] (assuming this can be used with Skype) - Be able to speak to person at front door and/or front gate and open door/gate (door/gate strikes are already installed) I...

    Rain8 or Not?

I had the same dilemma. So..... I'm hooking up my old classic Rain8 controller to the irrigation valves directly, and then via 8 rocker switches also connecting the Rain8Net to the valves. That way my gardner can switch over to 'manual' Rain8 control mode by flicking a rocker when I'm on...

ELK M1G and CBus Interface for CQC?

As I understand it there is no software driver between the ElkM1 and CBus, so i'd need to buy that interface card (no big deal). CBUS-------------ELK (prime use = PASSIVE prime use motion triggered lighting) | | --------CQC (prime use = ACTIVE...

ELK M1G and CBus Interface for CQC?

Hey Todd, For full disclosure, I don't have the ELK or CQC installed yet, so I honestly don't know if this logic should sit in the Elk or CQC. Knowing how little time I have and my bad luck with computers, I'd sleep better knowing the Elk was still handling the basics while it takes me 6...

ELK M1G and CBus Interface for CQC?

Howdy, I want to control my CBus lighting via CQC, but also allow the ELK M1G to control the lights to based on motion sensor input. I have both the CBus E5500CN (LAN) and the 5500PC (RS232) modules. I was planning on hooking up the 5500CN to the CQC driver but folks say that it is very...

    eKeypad/cbus setup?

Hi Jason, I'm excited about the prospect of using eKepyad for most of my automation needs. I did find this document on Elk/Ness M1 and C-Bus integration which helps: http://www.elkproducts.com/pdf/Ness_101_23...e_Manual_V3.pdf Thanks ewiz

    eKeypad/cbus setup?

It's hard to find information on the eKeypad support for C-Bus. I assume it requires that C-Bus is connected directly to the M1 and lights can be controlled by the M1 before it could work with eKeypad. Is it fair to say that the M1 is the hub for eKeypad and whatever can talk to the M1 will...

fanboys rejoice, there really is an ipad

Is the CQC client that RIVA thing I read about? If so, can I run CQC on the iPad without any shenanigans?

fanboys rejoice, there really is an ipad

So for $499 for a sexy iPad why would anyone want to buy a Vidabox at $2599 (no offense) or buy an ELO Touchscreen and separate computer? I'm not an apple fan boy, but I do think the iPad's and Joo Joo's are bad news for the traditional computer-in-a-wall players.
