    CocoonTech 2.0 has arrived!

Awesome work! Loving the wiki and I'll be signing up probably by the end of the week. A small request on the wiki - is there any chance that clicking the large logo in the top left corner could link back to the main site rather than the main wiki site? There's already a link to the main wiki...

    The OS Wars

OS/2 Warp is the only OS worth running and if you think otherwise, you're wrong.

What OS for your Home server?

I'm not aware of other major issues with WHS so I can't comment on them, but the data corruption bug was solved with SP1. Not that solving the corruption problem makes WHS the only or best choice, just saying is all. What I can say, however, is that I run my CQC Master Server on my WHS box and...

What OS for your Home server?

Windows Home Server. Everything else is wrong. ...I kid, I kid. The data protection scheme is less than optimal but the ability to mix and match drives sizes and the automatic backup of client computers is a winner in my book. It's been rock solid for me so far. Fingers crossed.

    Motherboard /video for HTPC

Yikes, hardware wise, it all looks good to me VV but I don't do any HD so just about anything made in the last 2-3 years works fine for me. In regards to XP vs. Vista, I'd probably buy Vista if I didn't have an extra copy of XP floating around. I use it on my desktop without issue and I don't...

    Motherboard /video for HTPC

Dunno if Matt ever made a decision or not but I'm bumping again because there's a new board being talked about here that looks like it could be a winner. Doesn't look like it's released yet but it appears to be a more theater focused uATX board than your run of the mill motherboard. Be...

    Motherboard /video for HTPC

Ah, understood. And in that case, yes, I would agree. The board I mentioned would not be the best choice as a main server for that type of setup.

    Motherboard /video for HTPC

Not to be obtuse, but why would you need more? In my setup, the media server and htpc are two different beasts. I was using a normal ATX setup with separate video card, which worked fine but now that you can get HDMI and decent on board sound, what else is needed that this flavor of...

    Motherboard /video for HTPC

I recently installed an Asus P5Q-EM. I know you said you weren't impressed with the current drivers for the G45 chipset but I haven't run into any of the issues that some others have reported and am quite happy with it's performance and features. So far it's been an excellent replacement for a...

    HTD whole home audio

I can answer a few questions about the Breathe system. I bought the 6x6 unit a few weeks ago and have begun working to integrate it with CQC. Just a quick run down, the keypads on the Breathe system do support local inputs. It doesn't seem to be a widely talked about feature but it does...

ControlThink Introduces First Upgradable USB Z-Wave Controller

This sounds like a great replacement for the old USB dongle. Couple of questions though - First, in regard to the firmware upgradability, is that a feature specific to this new dongle or it will allow future ZWave (maybe even current?) devices to be upgraded via the ZWave network? Second, what...

Unable to add CQC Elk Driver

The "Wait for comm resource" message usually means something else has control of that port. Dumb question but you're not trying to access the Elk with two programs at the same time, are you?

Lack of competition sends BluRay prices upward

I played with Amazon.com's unBox for a while (until the DRM broke and I haven't bothered to try to fix it) and the way they're setup, the backup is on their servers. You pay for something and download it and that purchase is saved somewhere on their end. If you delete the media to make room or...

    Recommend a waterproof speaker?

I usually get shot down when I recommend this, but I've got a single Polk Audio RC6s stereo speaker installed in my kitchen that I really enjoy. I've got 3 more sitting on my kitchen table waiting to be installed and need to pickup 2 more at some point in the not too distant future for the rest...

Lack of competition sends BluRay prices upward

We'll see what happens but if Sony doesn't lower the prices, BR may not get the widespread adoption it will need to keep viable. I think we're past or nearly past the point of early adopters shouldering the cost for being first to have a new toy.

    USB over cat5

Cheapest solution you'll find. I followed this guide to do about an 80 foot run from my living room to basement for keyboard and mouse. You can't play a DVD from an external USB drive over it but it works great for simple stuff. I can't imagine those baluns are anything more than powered USB...

    [Review] MicroFlow 2000 automated registers

I remember talking to a rep from the folks who make this thing and the answer was "No, the provided wiring is not plenum rated."
