I will be responsible for an unoccupied house this winter in Connecticut and am looking for a way to monitor temperature to avoid frozen pipes in the event of a heating failure. I am just about to pull the trigger on the Marcell device:

I've had occasional auto restarts of my elk system since I installed it in 2012. They didn't occur very often but were annoying and I've read of many users here having the same thing happening with their system.
A few months ago the restarts became more frequent, about two or three times per...
Private Internet Access (PIA) VPN has been bought out by a company that develops adware that has been treated as malware in the past by malwarebytes and others. I've never been completely trusting of VPN services and this doesn't help my opinion of PIA.

I think that this is worth sharing with the group -
Windows Sandbox
Windows Sandbox is a new lightweight desktop environment tailored for safely running applications in isolation. How many times have you downloaded an executable file, but were afraid to run it? Have you ever been in a...
I get the following error message when importing an exported account:
"
Exported account file: D:\filename.exp is an 5.3.10 not an M1G.
Please create or open an 5.3.10 account to import this file into.

Any help would be appreciated, Mike.
I recently created a new user account in Elk RP2 due to the act that I bought a new laptop PC.
I exported the account from the old PC and but got an error when I tried to import that info. Next I created a new account and received all info from the panel. This worked well except that I lost...
Just a heads up to anyone considering upgrading a HDD to SSD, check the power consumption specs first.
I upgraded an old HP Pavillion laptop from a Fujitsu 7200 rpm HDD to a Samsung 850 EVO and had a problem. It ran great for a couple of weeks but recently started shutting itself down for no...
I'm moving computers and drives around and moving some large files. I'm disappointed in my file transfer speeds and thought to ask out here what kind of speeds you guys are seeing in your Windows home networks.
I'm using Windows file explorer and just copy and pasting several GB at a time and...

I saw something this morning that I think is worth sharing
I just learned that Windows 10 now erases files in the download folder among others without any action on your part. Files are mirrored on a cloud server and erased if you haven't accessed them for a specified period of time.

The log file in my Elk M1 system shows that a few days ago I lost two Honeywell 5809ss "rate of rise" wireless heat detectors in my garage. The Elk log shows "Transmitter supervision loss". The time on the first one was exactly 18:00 and the second went down at exactly 19:00. This is a Honeywell...
I'm wondering what the group's experience has been with low priced TV sets. You can walk into Costco and see prices from $800 to $3000 on 60" LCD sets.
I don't want to talk about the difference in performance ie sound/video quality and number of inputs and what not because I understand that...

I've been using intellicast weather radar for years and tonight when I clicked on the bookmark for intellicast I was redirected to weather underground. At first I thought that my browser had been hijacked by malware so I tried my Iphone and found that Intellicast is transitioning to Weather...
It occurs to me that a thief could possibly find and smash your alarm panel silencing the alarm sirens. Sure the system would have already called the monitoring system but wouldn't it be better to use self contained sirens that have their own power supply so that they would continue to make...
I think that this is agreat device if it works. It's an automotive OBD reader that translates your cars error codes and attempts to diagnose the problem. I'm sure that it can read the codes but how good is it at diagnosing the necessary repair?

Has anyone tried it...
