    Been a while

dementeddigital, I couldn't figure out how to easily slipstream my images in, so here is a link on Google Drive with the pictures + description. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8OMckLx3wFNNUJPQmdHYWNoS2s   Included some build pics as well as our testing the steering / suspension.  I was the...

    Mosquito Misting Systems

Plant basil.  I used to plant Tomatoes and Basil plants.  Those years I remember NEVER EVER having mosquitoes in our gazebo area.  Looked it up once, basil is a mosquito deterrent.

Since I've logged in.  checked on "New Content"...wow 65 pages.  I guess that is what happens after not being logged in for 1 year+ !!   Hope to get back into some Cocoontech conversations, but at this point it depends on how fast I finish up the from Scratch Go Kart project I've been working...

What's the right way to hook up a switched outlet to UPB?

Mike,   While I agree with Pete, and that is essentially how I have my house hooked up, I went further and made all my lights on those plugs "snap" on and off using UPB.  The reason, what if someone plugs in a vacuum cleaner, or something else that should not be dimmed?   There are special plugs...

Water Hero - Water Monitoring / Shut off valve system

welp, you could just add a new shutoff valve inside the house.  :-)   For me, it would be iffy with the valve that the builder provided.  it is a CPVC valve.  not sure that thing will be able to turn the valve.   If I were to get one, I'd just add a new valve.  The last time I changed the pipes...

Premise UPB Handling a Double Click

Shiny,   I had a similar issue, I ended up using what I call a "slow double tap".  Basically, I run Homeseer.  In there I have an event that captures a switch or link status SET.  Not a CHANGE.  Then, if you say, tap the switch OFF, wait 1-2 seconds for the link data to get transmitted, then tap...

Thoughts on why my motion lights keep "blowing out"

I had a X-10 motion light installed by my back door for 3-4 years.  It worked quite well.  The X-10 part did not work, but that doesn't matter too much to me.  It was annoying, but at least it worked like a motion detector.  When I installed the X-10 flood light, I had to re-wire the switch...

If Garage Open for More Than 30 Minutes Close (Help)

I have my system alert me though text.  Then I close it by opening HSTouch, where i have a video feed looking across where the door will close, so I can visually see that there is nothing in the way of the door.   Then I activate an event, which first toggles a musical "dinger", while flickering...

    DIY Dog Toy/Treat dispenser?

IVB,   If you want more info or to get a hold of me quickly.  I don't frequent many forums often anymore.  Work keeps getting in the way.  :-)   BTW, update on my Brazing/Welding stuff.  Finished up my Cart I built with Brazing.  Looks good after I coated it fire engine red.  Going to build a Go...

    Water pressure analog sensor

What does pressure give you?  Or is this for something like a well?  I know for my house, with city water, I don't really care...the incoming pressure from the city is well over the 90PSI  that I set my house to.  At least that is what I think I set it to.  I'd have to check again.  ...

Want to Setup a Home VPN

For me, I've started to look at Tinc. http://www.tinc-vpn.org/   It took me about 5 minutes to setup a link between my server and home.  For now, just using SW on my server.  Later on will switch over to running it on PFSense.  This is more a mesh network, vs. star topology.  However, it make...

    NAS Advice

Last thing I need to acclamate myself to is, what happens when drives start to die in the ZFS array...beyond that I am ready to drop my 7.42TB (4 2TB drives) of space into my drive pool using iSCSI. I should probably do that soon.  This is the first time I had enough space to setup duplication...

    NAS Advice

It was newer than FreeNas... "NAS4Free is an embedded Open Source Storage NAS (Network-Attached Storage) distribution based on FreeBSD. NAS Advice

Not only the specs, but here is the install instructions: http://www.happybison.com/reviews/installing-freenas-on-acer-aspire-easystore-h340-6/   I had to tweak it a bit because of Nas4Free, but the general idea is the same.  I "installed" using DD and everything has been great since! I really...

Is it crazy to build a whole home audio system using a laptop?

Mick, Do you have a link?  If it is easier than what I am doing, maybe I'll go that route.  I mean aren't Pi's $25 each?  I'd be paying almost that just in the FPGA board (8 zones at $25 each $200, FPGA dev board is about $200-300).   --Dan

    NAS Advice

I setup my old Asus Easy Home server as a Nas4Free box.  Works great.  Using ZFS I am getting sustained 100-120MB/s rates. That ties into my storage pool on my main server over iSCSI. That pool is using Drivepool from Stablebit, similar to what WHS V1 used to do. https://stablebit.com/   Works...
