    OnQ/Legrand ALC Lighting Status

Is anyone still using this system?  OnQ/Legrand stopped developing the product and sold it to Stewart Electronics.  They maintained it for many years, but now they have also dropped this product line.   My house has 104 switches and when a few failed I decided to reverse engineer replacement...

Force Arm on EOL-Supervised Security Alert zone

After weeks of debugging it turns out that 4-state wiring has nothing to do with the false alarms I was getting with my system.  I reverted the 4-state wiring and still received false alarms.  Going back to 5.2.10 solved the problem.  There is some nasty bug in 5.3.  I strongly recommend not...

Force Arm on EOL-Supervised Security Alert zone

Well I doubt they'll write a new firmware for me.  Maybe I can explain the bug more clearly so you can understand at least:   System is not armed.  Motion detector cover removed, tamper switch opens zone goes to 13.8V Open   ZC message is sent: Open, Violated System goes into SECURITY ALERT...

Force Arm on EOL-Supervised Security Alert zone

I'm glad it is working on your test system.  My guess is there is a data corruption somewhere (possibly on the RS-485) bus which caused Z125 to trigger when Z38 was triggered.  Likely it would not happen on a bench system with only one or two sensors as the Elk would reject data not pertaining...

Force Arm on EOL-Supervised Security Alert zone

Hi Dean, didn't know you troll this forum as well!  Actually, I am using the Dev version of the V1 driver which I pretty much own having made significant code changes to it.  I think you are considering the ZoneAlarm events and I am more interested in simple Zone Status (PhysZone for V1 drivers)...

Force Arm on EOL-Supervised Security Alert zone

Yeah the whole reboot required thing is very odd.   I have also experienced STAY mode ENTRY/EXIT alarms recently (after changing 5 motion detectors to 4-state wiring).  Last night, I shut off my stereo which automatically unbypasses two glassbreak sensors and it caused the alarm to go into...

Force Arm on EOL-Supervised Security Alert zone

Well I only mentioned the force arm bypassing a troubled sensor because sixspeedmanual said his system was *not* force arm bypassing the troubled zone.  I really don't care which it does as long as the panel shows the true state of the sensor.   These four issues appear to be true Elk Panel...

Force Arm on EOL-Supervised Security Alert zone

I am having exactly the same experience.  I was on 5.2.2.  In my system, it would Force Arm even when the sensor was in the Trouble state.   Frankly I'm surprised more security people don't use this wiring setup.  It only takes a few seconds more to wire it this way and Elk provides plenty...

    Monitoring Power Status via LED

I saw your CDS photoresistor and defintely considered it.  The spectral match is much more toward the center of the visible.  However the devices tend to be much larger and clunkier with more of a 60's kind of vibe.  They are also slower than phototransistors, but not significant for our...

    Monitoring Power Status via LED

Here is an update on an old topic...   I have an Onkyo TX-NR708 and I need to monitor power status to turn on my SubWoofer AMP and raise my center channel speaker.  I used to use this current sensor http://www.phenixcontrols.com/Current_Sensor/9993/, but when I turned on the Ethernet based...

Update on ALC Lighting (Previously owned by OnQ Legrand)

Glad to hear it Tony! I'm very happy with my 102 load install. It was a little touchy getting it all working (electrician reversed some of the TX wires and got some of the addresses wrong). I also had to replace about five switches which weren't communicating. I bought a bunch of spares, but...

    Automation Capable Water Meter?

I found that most of the available systems were intended for use in industrial control systems (SCADA), and thus outrageously expensive (like $1000 for a simple RS-232 interface). I got a 2" Neptune T-10, and intend to add a hall effect magnetic sensor and count pulses with a Click PLC I have...

Legrand Discontinues the ALC and PLC Lighting Systems!

You certainly could go with an automation approach, but I chose a manual route. Every toilet in my house has an ALC switch for the light and a Leviton Timer switch for the fan side by side in a double gang box. It is obvious which switch controls what, and you don't have to turn the fan on if...

    Proximity Sensor Recommendation Fire Pit

How about a simple pressure switch. When the cover is on it pushes down the switch and breaks the contact. Keep it away from the flames, of course. I like this switch because it is sealed: Sealed Limit Switch Also, I think I would skip the Elk, just wire the ignitor circuit directly through...

    Power for IN-WALL TOUCHSCREEN

Most local codes allow you to run Class 2 low power <100W (or 5x V if V<20) wires with no conduit requirements. Just run another pair to each touchscreen (how about some 14-2 speaker wire). When the touchscreens arrive, splice your power supply into the new wire and you are done. --Bob

    ALC startup questions

Quick update: most of my switches are working as stand-alone or aux switches. A few were bad and have been replaced. Still waiting for some relays to replace dimmers (for the ropelights and also some exterior lights which code requries to be fluorescent). As for automation, I purchased a copy...

    ALC startup questions

All of the ALC LOAD switches have neutrals. You can see them in the picture attached to Post #1. Green GND, Black HOT, White NEUTRAL, Blue LOAD, and of course the little wires in heat shrink connect to the yellow CAT5 for network&AUX control. I can only think some strange interaction with the...

    ALC startup questions

The AUX eventually gave good readings, but the switch needed to be pressed very hard. My electrician figured out how to remove the toggle plate and re-align the springs, and that seemed to help quite a bit. One thing we noticed is that the dimmer switches have an extra off position. If you...

    ALC startup questions

Yeah, I'm not thrilled about the two wires in a single punch on connection 6. I taped the CAT5s together so there will be less stress on the wires, but I'll definitely keep a close eye on those. I know the AUX connections are bridged from 9 up to 8. Really, the data connections are...
