Cinemar Announces New Energy Efficient Mass Storage Solution Print E-mail

Cinemar just announced a new networkable storage solution (MLD-4000), which can offer up to 12 TB of space.  It's a 4U rackmount based server, running a Linux backend (maybe running  a modified version of OpenFiler or FreeNAS?).  I'm not sure how it stacks up against the DroboPro, so if anyone purchased one of these, I would love to hear about it.  Press release follows below.

Kenosha, Wisconsin, United States, 08/18/2009 – Cinemar, Inc., a leading provider of affordable home automation and media management solutions since 2002, has announced the release of the MLD-4000 Data Server. Capable of storing up to 12 Terabytes of data, the MLD-4000 is ideal for media storage. Cinemar CTO Dave Perrico stated, "Not only did we want something that would be easily expandable as user storage space requirements grew, but we also wanted it to be extremely energy efficient. The MLD-4000 uses only 60 watts of power, each additional 1.5TB of storage adds a mere five watts. Drives not in use will sleep and conserve additional electricity." The MLD-4000 is available in 3, 6, 9 and 12TB increments. Users can expand and configure the MLD-4000 on their own through a web browser.

Unlike other data storage solutions that are impossible to add additional hard drive to your raid after initially configured, the MLD-4000 allows you to expand internally (via hot-swappable front removable trays) up to 10 SATA/SATA II hard drives of any size or speed. Similar to other RAID systems, the MLD-4000 Data Server permits reconstruction of a single failed hard drive. However in the unlikely event of multiple hard drive failures, data loss would be isolated to only those hard drives which failed. In traditional RAID systems, multiple simultaneous hard drive failure results in complete data loss.

The MLD-4000 Data Server does not require Cinemar software and can be integrated into any network solution requiring mass storage. It's sleek red rack-mountable chassis can also be locked to prevent unwanted access to the drives. The MLD-4000 is available for purchase today. Pricing starts at $2599.99.
