HAI Compact Fluorescent Light UPB switch Home Automation, Inc. logoHAI will be showing off a new UPB CFL bulb friendly light switch at the next International Builders Show in LV this week.  While you still require 'dimmable' CFL bulbs, the switch has been optimized to account for the difference in CFL dimming behavior, providing a smooth transitions, which is an issue with existing light switches.  The switch will also support an auto-off feature and will be available later this year.  Read more for the original press release.

HAI will demonstrate the CFL Switch and additional HAI products in Booth C952 at the International Builders Show in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 19-22, 2010.

HAI (Home Automation, Inc.), leading manufacturer of integrated automation and security products since 1985, announced today that it’s developing a 500W CFL Switch.
The 500W CFL Switch (HAI part number 35A00-1CFL) controls dimmable compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) providing the equivalent of 1500 watts of incandescent brightness.  Traditional incandescent dimmers will abruptly change the dimming of a CFL bulb.  However, The CFL Switch has a dimming profile that is optimized specifically for dimmable CFL “twist” bulbs.  This profile provides smoother dimming throughout its range.  Additionally, HAI's CFL Switch has a minimum brightness setting to prevent the bulb from flickering.

The 500W CFL Switch has an auto-off feature that can be set up using UpStart Software (HAI free download).  This feature is ideal for pantries, closets, or anywhere that manual on/automatic off operation is desired for energy savings.  The switch LED will blink when the switch is timing out.  Additionally, the switch can easily be made into a non-dimming switch from the paddle itself if desired.

"The HAI CFL Switch is part of our continuing efforts to provide energy efficient solutions," explains Jay McLellan, HAI President.  "The CFL Switch development is a direct result of consumer requests, whose opinions HAI greatly values."

The 500W CFL Switch will be available in almond, light almond, black, brown, grey, ivory, and white.  Additionally, the switch uses a standard Decora style wallplate for limitless décor options.  The 500W CFL Switch is also available in a case of 12 (HAI part number 35A00-1CFLCS).

HAI’s 500W CFL Switch is expected to ship in the second quarter of 2010.
