    HA Technology Comparison Spreadsheet

I can confirm that the Breathe Audio driver is tested and operational for CQC (I wrote it). I guess you can consider it BETA although it should be released shortly. Also, CQC supports about 1/2 dozen Extron video switchers, and both the Avalon and Borrego Neothings switchers. Also, the Caddx...

    Inexpensive Touch Screen Automation

x2...I have two 15" ELOs, one in the MBR and one in the Kitchen. In the MBR, I use a a swing-arm mount next to the bed, so laying in bed, you can swing it at a right angle to do whatever, and when not in bed, swing it back against the wall as a walk up TS. In the kitchen, I use an under the...

Nokia 770 or 810 RDP Use?

I use the 770 w/ CQC and the hack linked above. Works great. I use the XP hack that gives me 3 sessions of RDP with no issues. The only caveat I've found with the 770 and RDP and CQC is that pop-out animation is slow. If you aren't familiar with pop-outs, they are usually sub-menus that...

    impedance matching with speakers

As Timh correctly noted, impedance and resistance are two different measurements. Impedance (Z) is made up of Resistance ® and Reactance. Your meter is measuring resistance so it will read less than the impedance of the circuitry. So how does this relate to speakers, amps and impedance...

    Measuring electricity

It appears that it supports LonWorks networks only, so CQC would be out AFAIK. Don't know about HS, but unlikely.

    Halloween Event checklist

Ambitious.... I would worry about volume at 100% for more than 10-15 seconds. You want to get their attention, but then you want it to subside to be able to hear them and talk to them. For the reset cycle, it depends on the expected foot traffic. If you are in a suburban neighborhood and...

    water shut off valve

I would think you would want it normally closed, or a two state valve. If it is normally open and you have to power it to close it, what happens when your Elk dies while you are away. It opens. No good. A two state electric valve will probably cost a hundred or two. If you want a normally...

    Opinions for IR

If you can't communicate to the device (via RS232 or IP) to know its status then your only choice is an external device. The two I've seen are the current devices you mentioned or an optical sensor placed on the Power LED. The other option is hope that your devices have discrete On/Off...

Anyone seen a temperature controlled relay?

How about something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=200130789436

control a 9 zone sprinkler system using 8 wires??

D'oh....I should of thought of that, having worked on many a Pinball Matrices.

control a 9 zone sprinkler system using 8 wires??

I would agree that's the best solution. If YOU really want to use relays you could get creative and use a binary setup, but it would take lots of contacts on each relay (unless you broke them up into sets and then it would take 2 or 3x as many relays).

    CQC and UPB

As noted, they have lots of wireless choices that don't involve PLC technology in Lutron's RadioRA, CentralLite's starlite, or even, z-wave.

    CQC and UPB

Thanks for the synopsis, TM....What happens on those retrofits where a customer doesn't want RA prices and they have no neutrals, which is common among older homes. As you know, I've been straddling the fence between Z-wave and UPB and am leaning more and more towards UPB, but I've yet to open...

    CQC and UPB

Do pro's really install PLC lighting? Given the history, I would expect them not to touch it with a 40' pole.
