    Hardwired Lighting System Using Cat5

The way we worked with the code is that the CAT5 is there to control a device (the i-line switch). That way, it was allowed in the box with the HV wiring. We had to show that the insulation rating was at least 300V and we went to the manufacturer of the CAT5 wire to get the answer for the...

    Hardwired Lighting System Using Cat5

Sacedog, The newer i-line switches will function independent from the system like a regular switch in the case of a network failure. The ones that wouldn't work are 2-way and 3-ways that are connected only with the CAT5. As far as cost, I think the whole thing cost me $6800.00 for the switches...

    Hardwired Lighting System Using Cat5

I installed an EDT i-line system in my new house by myself 2 years ago. The switches are very responsive and I have had no problems at all. I am controlling every load in the house (64) with the switches. The i-line software is a little hard to grasp initially, but if you are controlling with...

    EDT iLine questions

Snap_75, I did fill out and sign the Dealer form. I felt the same way you guys do...that is a bit daunting, but the guys at EDT were very helpful. My initial order was over $5,000. I also went to their training in Texas. I have had a great experience dealing with them. They recently sent...

    EDT iLine questions

Well, that doesn't make it easy. I am in Akron, OH. I'll get some pictures and see if that helps you out. I think the i-line stuff is great. I have had no problems with it at all. Very reliable.

    EDT iLine questions

rbroders, Where are you located? I may be able to help answer your questions. I have a large install of i-line switches (75+ loads) controlled by an Elk M1G. Snap_75 hit on all of the important points.

    Desire to start automating lighting

Steve, RG6 from closet to TV's could be HD if she were distributing from her receiver via component. For example, my Elan system outputs HD via component to each of my zones.

    Desire to start automating lighting

Steve and royalj7 are right about the RG6 at touch screens unless you want video there, and it doesn't sound like you do. The EDT system IS hardwired and does not use the powerline, so it is rock solid. It is compatible with both HAI and Elk controllers.

    Desire to start automating lighting

Some of the "higher end" lighing controls like Vantage and Centralite require that electrical wiring be homerun to a load control center. All that is run to the switch locations is a control wire (cat5). The system I am using, EDT i-line www.edt.biz lets the builder put in standard wiring and...

    Desire to start automating lighting

ginnytr, I was going through the same thing you are about a year ago before building my new house. As far as the structured wiring, royalj7 is absolutely right, you can't overwire in new construction. I have been in my house now for a little over 6 months and I am going back to add more wire...
