Lighting Automation Technologies: If you got to do it all over again

I have had no reason to consider any other protocal. We used to use X-10 all the time. We finally started with UPB and tried to have Z-wave as an alternative. We used Z-wave for maybe two months and quickly realized there was no reason to. UPB has done everything we've asked and are still...

    UPB manufacturers

The folks at Web Mtn have been a huge resource and have been the main reason we have been successful in our adoption of this technology since 2005. We are even today still learning from them and are very excited for the new controller they have developed. Also, they have decided to spin off of...

    LARGE UPB INSTALL

I will get some pics soon. My guy in Augusta has some more units to add. Looks like it will be over 200 units. The homeowners are moving in the next couple of weeks. So lamp mods and a few other devices will be incorporated. You are sooooo right about Web Mtn being a pleasure to work with...

    LARGE UPB INSTALL

The interchangable faceplates added a bunch of flexibility. I do business through Web Mtn so they are GenII. So really, not any more gutsy than others. The electricians were pretty blown away. They were ready to see it work. Still working out some details but we got most functional with scenes...

    LARGE UPB INSTALL

In Augusta, a home with the lower two floors all UPB. A mixture of PCS and SA are used. 7 switch panels and multiple transmitters throughout. Actually went smoothly with the split phase repeater installed. 5 breaker panels and communication reports levels at only 30 lesters for all units. I...

X-10 module relays chatter when switching LV xfrmrs

Funny. I opened a transformer before that had a mouse nest inside. Yes I freaked. not because I was affraid just unexpected. Another one is finding black widow spiders inside open bottom fixtures.

    US240 switch meltdown

The dimmer switches really in normal boxes are rated on watts. I suggest following the above post. Lamp mods with constant power on the recepticle. Wire the controller to be a transmitter only. Extension cords could join two lamps to one LM rated at 300w. The main concern I'd have is when the...

    UPS causing interference with UPB

The thing I am to understand about using Upstart is that there is more information passing back and forth between the units. In a normal working environment most times noise won't be a huge issue but to run tests or program anything could pose a problem. Try programming everything without the...

    UPS causing interference with UPB

Just curious. A filter would probably be the solution if you can find one for that load. I'd like to know if you could attenuate the noise by either adding an extension cord then see what noise levels are or put the 20A breaker on the other phase of the panel and see if that improves things any...

    Is Intermatic Discontinuing Zwave Products?

Aren't they too big to fail? Maybe a stimulus package would prop up Z-Wave until they ultimately go bankrupt. Sounds like a perfectly good idea to me since it seems to be popular from the intelects running a company for unions. Oh wait maybe Itermatic has union contracts that they are to pay for...

    Intermatic

I wanted to mention or read about what or how this will affect those of you who use their product. They apparently are going to no longer have a consumer line. The Z-Wave or InTouch products will be phased out. So would you use other Z-Wave products from other Mfgs? Has anyone else heard this...

No State Income Tax for now anyways. As long as we fight the greedy SOBs.

UPB Switches for non-dimmable fluorescent cans

Have you determined that they are causing noise to radiate? I would most likely use anything that is Gen II. You may find no issues with noise but just in case, make sure it is Gen II so if the ballasts are in their final stage in life they don't begin radiating enough interferance that they...

    UPB phase coupler poll

Very rarely though to answer the question honestly I had to say yes. Though one out of a hundred, maybe only one or two jobs would require it. I depend on phase alligning and have found better results. If several devices are in the network a coupler or a repeater would be priced in.
