    lutron question

Style. Lutron makes Architectural and Designer styles. If you notice in the picture, the keypad buttons go all the way out to the faceplate. This is a specialized faceplate. In the Designer Series the faceplace uses a standard decora size. See this...

Lutron HomeWorks - Extracting programming data

I have no experience in Interactive, but XML is a relatively recent addition to Illumination and was done for the iPhone App. I think it came in v. 1.33 or so. Defintely within the last year. Not that this helps you, but give you an idea when Illumination got it.

    Crestron via HTTP

I guess the next question is "What are you trying/wanting to accomplish?" Is this a system in a conference room that controls projection and lighting? How is it controlled now? Touchpanel? Handheld?

    Crestron via HTTP

Need a little more info. Is this an existing system, or did you get a processor and want to be able to control it.

Legrand Discontinues the ALC and PLC Lighting Systems!

It is a second switch beside the dimmer. This way it can be operated manually if desired.

Legrand Discontinues the ALC and PLC Lighting Systems!

I did go with an automation approach. I have a Lutron HW dimmer in the master bath. If the light gets turned on and is on for more than 2 minutes (at this point you are either showering, cleaning or doing something else that needs a fan), then the fan switch is activated by the processor...

    Yet another Lutron RA2 topic

That wont work for me. I am trying to help out a business associate/friend. He has seen my HW Wireless system, wanted it in his new house, call the local Lutron Rep in this area and was talked into RA2. Turns out the guy that sold it to him has never really done a project of this size and is...

    Yet another Lutron RA2 topic

Take a look here: http://www.radiora2.com/training.html Specifically the Setup Guide at the bottom of the page. It will walk you through sneaker-net programming. Ooooh! Please tell. :)

Pre-Wire Cost - Daily Rate for Helper

You might try someplace like Labor Ready. You pay a fixed hourly rate and you can specify the type of worker. So if you need someone experienced in electrical, you can get it. Keep them only as long as you need them and if the first guy doesn't work out, get another one the next time.

    ALC startup questions

If the dimmers do not have a neutral wire, then what you are probably seeing is the current bleed for the power needed to operate the dimmer. Not sure if ALC makes a dimmer with a neutral wire, but if they do, it is what you need. Or replace the dimmer with a switch. Speaking of ALC, what...

    Saving Energy with Lighting Control

I have almost all dimmers (Lutron) in my house. I don't like the light output of CFL. So as I have been replacing lights as they burn out, I have been using the Philips Energy Savers. They are about 30% more efficient than regular bulbs, but the light output is very similar. Adding to that...

    RA2 or Z-Wave?

I would say they don't get all upset at DIY like say a Crestron or AMX would. I think they understand it and accept it, but don't advertise it. After all, as I a noted, they make a Homeowner Version of their Homeworks software available. And unlike C4, this is the full version of the...

    RA2 or Z-Wave?

Find a dealer who will provide you with the product AND the software. You will do the actual install. Count on paying more for the product that you would from an online retailer. A cooperative dealer will provide you with help, an online retailer will not.

    automated garage door opening

The problem with that is unless you add some logic (ie open command> if door is closed> execute>else do nothing) then you can close the door remotely and that is not a good idea. I know some people here have done it, but I won't automate anything I cant see other than lights, shades and sprinklers.
