If you have a Butt set or a meter check to see if you have dialtone or voltage on the Gray and brown pair, If not the RJ31X is not making good contact.

Also check the shorting pins on the back of the rj45 plug sometimes they dont make good contact. Happens in the feild all the time and some rj31x jacks are bad.

What is the normal life of most of them?

I had the outside horn on my M1 start cherping and Brad at ELK said to put a resister across it. But it quit befor I got it done and have not heard it start again, That is a regular horn.

Yes They beep when the fob is used. I have installed 10 of these but with a KAM but the power does come from the Data bus and only 4 wires. I talked to tech support at wiegand and they did help.
