Elkdroid... what is going on?

I am concerned with the Android application Elkdroid. I purchased it over 3 weeks ago. Got it to work but my issue is that the application has some fixes that need to be done and there were some simple enhancements promised over a year ago. None of this happened. I have been trying to contact <[email protected]> and got one response that there is a beta version. Since then no response with numerous emails.

Now if the owner has been swamped with work I can understand this and he needs to speak up now with an update.

But if it is not the case I have an issue. If you take a look at the the developers comments:

If it was a free application I would not make a fuss about it. But at $100.....grrrr!!. I notice that a year ago the reviews were great. But if the developer has decided to no longer support the application he should remove it. An if it is the case I feel it is necessary the unhappy buyers make it known on the marketplace through reviews. But I do not want to jump to conclusion and post negative comments yet

Yes, I emailed him a couple times with some suggestions and comments (one specificaly about getting temp probe data) but never got any kind of reply.

Just FYI it was the same deal with myKeypad, emails and no response, also no updates in a long time.

It's the one of the only things I miss about my iPhone, eKeypad is a fine app.

It seems that it's been a WHILE since any of these threads have been updated... has there been any word at all??

FYI: I just visited the Android market (Play store) and the app is now (not sure for how long) listed at $9.99.

EDIT: I found a log which showed the price dropped to $9.99 on Oct 29, 2012...

I'm pissed that I paid $100 for this app. I emailed this developer *before* I bought it, and he assured me that missing features would be added and he would be doing a lot of additional development on it. I took his word for it. I think one update for it came out after I bought it.

If I had only paid a few bucks for it, it would be different. Live and learn.

Yup, add me to the list of disappointed owners of this app as well. I found that I like the myKeypad app better anyway and it is (err, was) half the price.

I guess my curiosity based on the fact that the price was dropped a month ago. I'm wondering if Kent was at some point overwhelmed with the success (number of purchases) and then issues... and just wasn't able to support it to that level. That said, if the price was updated a month ago, obviously someone is still involved to do so... but possibly doesn't want to comment and have to deal with the MANY people who've reported such issues and disappointment with the lack of support - I know I'd be pretty pissed too if I were to had bought it (especially for $100) then found no further support.

As the story goes, the last time this thread perked up, a few people contacted the developer at once - he briefly perked up saying he wanted to get things straight, updated the price, then disappeared again. He's a younger gent - at an age where life changes quickly - I can only assume he got overwhelmed and just couldn't keep up with the app on the side. I just wish he'd turn it over to someone who could if he isn't willing to. I may try contacting him one more time - he lives about 10 minutes from me and I'd be willing to help get it to someone qualified to keep it up.

+1. If he doesn't have time to deal with it, hand it over to someone who does.

To be honest, I haven't even used the app in well over a year. It was a PITA, and I just use Home Buddy now instead.

I never bought it thankfully - I use iOS - but I know that the iOS version of my home control app is the most expensive thing I ever bought at $50. I also bought Jayson's $40(?) Camera app (waste of money - IP Cam Viewer for $4 is 10000x more powerful); #3 is a $10 driving game I haven't played in 3 years; nothing else on my iOS devices cost more than $2, and at last check I was at 172 apps.. I doubt I've spent $50 combined for all the rest.

My point being - this is an extremely expensive app in comparison to what most people buy... it's great that someone else stepped up who, from what I remember, seemed a little bit like a joke at the time with a horrible buggy app - but at least they stuck with it and turned it into something and made it the better app (mykeypad).

I really hope kentdub finds a way to make things right for everyone.

Can you arm the system with myKeypad? I can disarm fine, but cannot arm. It shows on the screen like it should be doing something, but nothing happens. I'm using the free version for now.

Yea, this is a known issue. You should create a separate account in Elk with something like "user access" check box checked (it is not normally). Not sure if this is the exact wording, but there are posts which describe this in detail

EDIT: Sorry, that's UNCHECK the 'access authorization'..

To arm via the serial port you need to use a user account that doesn't have 'access authorization' (I think that's the name) enabled. If that's set, it prevents automation interface based login.

Well this is definitely not my week for electronics.

I set up a new user in ELK with "access" not checked.

I set the same user up in myKeypad. I can connect fine, but will not arm. Will disarm just fine. Tried it with "Use Login" checked and not checked. Any other secrets?

So you aren't getting any error back, it's just not arming? You sure you are passing the right code for that user?
