Almost done with M1 install - need a bit of help please!

So after finally buying all the pieces parts, learning how to wire CAT5e, etc. my system is almost up. There are 2 things that I can't figure out so hopefully someone can help. First is the keypad is telling me 'Trouble Output 2'. I have tried all combinations to fix this but so far no luck. I had a resistor on the M1 board and that didn't work so I bought an Elk 30w 8 ohm speaker and wired that up directly, still no luck. Any thoughts?

Second thing is that when the system is armed away and you open the door I don't get any warning tones that the system is armed and needs to be disarmed. In the keypad settings in RP the 'silent during entry delay' is NOT checked. What am I missing? The system speaks all other commands and alerts no problem through my output 1 speaker (SP12F).

I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go along as I will move onto some automation next. Lastly, I too cannot get the email function to work in the XEP. I've tried several mail services(cox, godaddy, and even the gmx that someone posted about) but can't get any of them to work.

Thanks for the help!!!

In ELK RP, is output 2 set to Siren or Voltage out?

Im not sure about #2?

Try doing a master reboot by turning off the switch on the main board, wait about 10 seconds or so, then restart the system. Give it a minute or 2, and see if it works?

As for the email issue, well I feel your pain. I finally gave up on trying to send email from the Elk, and use a software solution to do it.

Output 2 is set to siren.

I've rebooted the system several times and no luck yet on getting a warning to disable the alarm.

What software solution are you using to generate emails for Elk events. After getting the security portion smoothed out I want to move on to more automation stuff.

Thx.

Output 2 looks for a supervision resistance on the siren circuit. If you install the proper value resistor at the siren you should clear the trouble. I think the manual says a 2.2K resistor is needed across the circuit.

This is so that if your siren wire is cut you get a trouble. If you don't care about the actual functionality then install the resistor right across the terminals at the M1 along with the wires feeding the siren.

Second, Is your zone type set to Entry/Exit?

What is your M1XEP firmware revision number?

Thanks for the reply - the manual says if I'm NOT using a speaker on output 2 then use a resistor. So I should put a 2.2K resistor on the terminals along with the wires then?

I found my answer to the keypad alert problem when opening the door when the system is armed. In RP I had the key beep volume set to 0 instead of 1. That brings up my next question though, can the inside speaker (output 1) give an alert that the entry timer is on (beep or otherwise) instead of the keypad beeping only?

My firmware on the XEP is 1.3.20

Thanks for the help!

Yes, if you are not using the output, just place the resistor across the terminals, and thats it. This is the way I have mine setup.

Ok but I do have a speaker hooked up to Output 2. It's the Elk-44 which is a 30 watt 8 ohm speaker. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding your guidance. It still reports Trouble Output 2 with event 1142 Output 2 Supervisory Trouble in the log.

You could do a rule that alerts to the timer countdown; but by default, it's the keypad beep only.

I too have the resister across the speaker output - have you made sure you have it in the right place? And I'm not sure it matters, but how do you have that output set (voltage or speaker)?

Do you have a speaker hooked up as well or just the resistor? I have the global option set to siren since it's a speaker.

Sorry - had to open RP and look at some old posts for a refresher... When I had a siren hooked up it was making noise all the time, so I pulled it and put in just a resistor; then experimented a couple times with a Speaker but never permanently mounted one.

Sounds like Elk needs to chime in - they probably need to help you figure out the correct resistance to use. If I recall, the resistors that came with the panel didn't work - I'm pretty sure I had to go to radio shack for a specific one to stop the trouble message.

If you post this specifically in the Elk sub-forum, it's more likely to catch Elk's attention.

Thank you for the reply. I believe from all I've read it should be a 2.2k resistor. I'll get a new resistor from RS and see if it solves the output 2 issue.

A quick update on the email problem - I found that if I switched to port 80 for my smtp server (which is hosted through GoDaddy smtpout.secureserver.net) I got it to work!

Awesome! Personally, email is the single biggest weakness of the M1 that drives me nuts... I'd rather see it just be openly not supported... at least then people could save the days/weeks wasted on troubleshooting it and go straight to finding a companion product that actually works.

I think I'm learning that you're right. As you can tell I'm just starting my Elk journey, but can quickly see why so many add in HA software to fill in the holes. In fairness to Elk though I guess it can't be all things to all people but the email reporting and options certainly could use some update. I (like a lot of people on here) am in the software world and know it wouldn't take that much to add some additional needed capability to the XEP(SSL support, email text based upon variables generated by the board, subject header customization). Yes I understand you have UL certification, documentation, training, etc. in terms of investment but if you commit your company to putting out a product such as the XEP people are probably going to expect that it allow more than just using ElkRP for programming. I'm still a noob at this so maybe I just haven't learned how to do some more things yet and that I will take my comments back.

Next stop Homeseer I think....
