uControl just launched OpenSMA, an industry program which will promote interoperability among its member's products. OpenSMA will focus on Home Security, Monitoring and automation. While OpenSMA was officially launched today, it already has several members, including CentraLite, Comporium, ember, mctv, NewWave, Radio Thermostat, SMC, The Weather Channel and uControl. This program actually has some real potential, and hopefully will include all the big players in the near future. Interoperability has always been an issue in the Home Automation industry.

For more details about the program, visit the OpenSMA website and see the press release below.

so to dig in a little deeper. these guys merged with Icontrol Icontrol - Ucontrol merger (waiting for A, E, and Ocontrol to join also smile). Icontrol is the technology behind ADT Pulse - Security + HA. combined they now have about 60 million in funding (yes they are fund backed products not private owners). So basically ADT & GE bought into this stuff from the funds and will be the front end marketing machine to make all of this happen with the funds backing the product integration/development side. so OpenSMA is a bunch of bs to get products 'certified' for Pulse and similar other products like GE interlogix, etc. basically the security industry is now hopping on the HA market in large scale most likely because of green technology/smartgrid push by the government. no one wants to get caught with their pants down if HA hits now mainstream.
