Port Forwarding problem

Hi all,

I am having a problem that I just can't figure out. I have a Netgear WRN3500 router, Axis video server , & Axis 216FD camera. I have the Axis devices programmed with ip's and port numbers. I have port forwarded the router, but I just can't get it to work. It worked fine on my old Lynksys router. I also have my Elk forwarded and it works fine??? Anybody else have this router? Is there another setting besides port forwarding that I am missing?
I tried to access the cameras via iPhone and ran a log on the 3500, below is the log.

LAN access from remote] from XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:46771 to 192.168.1.155:4001 Wednesday, Sep 29,2010 13:09:29

The ip and port are correct. It looks like i'm into the router but not getting to the device, very fustrating :(

Any pointers in the right direction would be great :D

Thanks,

Mike

Are you changing the port number from the inside network to the outside network interface?

I'm guessing you are.

How exactly are you doing the port forwarding on the router?

1 - first change the port you are using on the axis camera to something else (like port 80 first).
2 - configure the same port on your router's external interface in.
3 - see if you can get to it.

Then try a different port number. Typically you can leave it and port forward any combo.

Can you see the camera on the same port on the internal network; whatever it is?

If you tether your IPhone to a PC and you can do an extended ping/extended trace route (with port number) from the WAN interface that might also help you.

I'm doing a simple port forward. Port # forward to ip address. I had everything working on my old Lynksys router perfect. I access my M1 through Ekey on my iPhone through port forwarding and it works everytime, thats whats got me fustrated. It's the same settings. I have tried many different port numbers, no go. :(
Thanks for your sugestions, I will try all except for the tether(I have no idea how to do that with an iPhone 3) Time to upgrade.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

What are the port forward rules you have set up (leave the port numbers in and take the IP's out) specifically on the configuration pages of your router?

Or take a screen shot and blurr out your IP's. Or PM me your WAN IP.

Are you saying eKeypad is working? Did the IP of the router change when you upgraded it? Have you tried power cycling the AXIS devices?

While I don't know your router, I do know that on some you have to set the port forwarding for TCP, UDP or both. Play on.

Mike,

I have seen a wide range of issues from various routers. One of the first things that I suggest when port forward settings are not working is to suggest deleting the non-working settings (make sure to save the changes), exit your web browser, then re-setup the port forward settings.

This has worked on a very large number of instances. I am not sure if it says something about consumer routers or helps correct subtle entry errors.

Next I would check the following items:

- Verify that the camera is setup with a static IP Address.
- If using DHCP reservations for the static IP Address, verify that it is working correctly.
- Make sure the port forward entry matches the internal IP Address of the camera.
- Make sure the port forward entry matches the port configured in the camera.
- Change the external port number you are using. ISPs block some port ranges or your router may be using the same port.

The Netgear WNR3500 requires that you both set up Port Forwarding/Port Triggering and add a Custom Service.

I did not set that up for my Elk, and I access it all the time. All I did was forward the port, the same that I am trying to do for the Axis equipment.

Jayson,

Thanks, I have tried all of the above. Remember I am setting up two devices and have the same trouble with both.
