What resolution is your touchscreen? Please list the brand and model if you have it and any details about the software you use to create it.

I want to start putting some graphic-packs together that can be used with any touchscreen. I am trying to determine what the most common resolutions are so i can focus my time & energy on those.

Thanks.

1024x768 MainLobby software on most screens.
800x600 or 800x480 on handhelds
of course HD resolution would be popular for "On Screen" UI via wireless mouse or IR remote for software that supports that. 1920x1080
iPhone - 480x320 or 320x480

There's actually a poll with this question floating around somewhere, I'll try to find it, it should help.

I have an older ELO model that only does 800x600. (EDIT - I double checked and it actually will do 1024x768. I guess I'll be modifying my templates!)

My Nokia tablets use 800x480.

I use 1024X768 on my ELO and PC's and 800X480 on my Nokia 770 and Advent tablets. For software I use Netremote for the GUI frontend that ties into Mediabridge/JRMC for multizone music and Girder 5 for home automation and IR control. See my blog for screenshots and details

1024x768 on 15" ELO, 800x480 or 800x600 on Advent and 320x240 currently on WinMo. All run CQC Interface Viewer. To use graphics in CQC they should ideally be PNG's or in CQC ImagePacks.

Thanks everyone. To Steve.. all images are transparent PNG's so they should work with most modern panels.

1024X768
800X600
800X480
480X320
320X240

Nice interface Jwilson56. The blog feature here at cocoontech is brilliant.

Wouldn't it be better to use a vector graphics image format instead? i.e. SVG (or other popular format).
This way it can be resized to suit the end user.

I'm just deciding to jump into some graphic work as I would like to create some backgrounds and templates. I have zero experience however. Do you know of any good basic tutorials for GIMP on how to do basic things like shadows and highlights (to make backgrounds looke 3-D)?

Sorry for the late response. I have been slammed for a while.

The first issue is that i need to build templates with the graphics. Even when i sell a "Graphics Kit" i almost always end up loading the graphics into the purchasers GUI software for them. Once the graphics are in the GUI software you cant really make changes to them. Crestrons VTPRO will allow you to "Save As" another resolution and attempt to scale things for you but it distorts the graphics . It only really works if you use the native plain boring button tools. So at this point i think i have to give up my plan of selling graphics kits and start putting together templates for HAI, CQC etc.

I am using Fireworks so i am working with Vector graphics. The second issue is that the exported 'flat' PNG or BMP or whatever wont scale as well as vectors. This means that the end user will have to have access to fireworks and know enough about it to re-size and export the vector graphics. Most people who know enough about fireworks to accomplish that are not buying graphics or templates because they can do it themselves. My screenshot below shows how scaling something slightly larger begins to create blurry edges. This is a pretty basic shape with not much going on in the way of effects so imagine a huge navigation bar or something like a palm tree with lots of geometry going on.

I really wish there was an easier way. Heck, maybe there is and i just havent figured it out yet smile.gif.

Sorry for the late response. I am not familiar with GIMP other than name recognition. I wasn't aware of it when i got fireworks for the first time or i would have learned how to use it instead. My only advice is to find a gimp forum. I joined fireworksguruforum a year or 2 ago and its really helped me move forward. Guys post layered examples that you can pick apart and learn how things are done.
